Default What oil do you guys run in he winter?

First off I don't wan this to be an oil debate. Just a question. I have always run m1 5w-30 and was just curious if you guys change weights in the winter since winter doesn't get that cold here. I'm also thinking about trying a k&n filter

same stuff i run in the summer... GC 0w-30.

and actually... i only do one oil change a year since i only drive the car like 4k, yr.

and actually... there is no 'winter' in TX. there is only summer and 'not quite summer'. so i dont think you have any concerns.

yeah thats what i call it to. not quite summer anymore haha. i wasnt worried about it. but i had been seeing a lot of people using 10w oil and was just curious at to why. it seems like everyone thats posted so far has used different oil haha.

another reason i asked about the oil filter is because i was reading in the gen 3 section and someone said that after they changed to another brand of oil filter one of the wonderful ls1 ticks went away.

i know you said you dont want this to be a oil debate, but if im not mistakin (which i might be) but dont you want to run the thinner oil during the winter because the thicker takes longer to get preassure in the motor... correct me if im wrong...

it doesnt get 'cold' in TX in the winter, so it doesnt matter. you guys are over thinking it. if you think it gets cold here, you need to live somewhere else for a while.

http://www.castrol.com/castrol/gener...tentId=7007302
for example, on castrol's site, it says 10w-30 is good down to 0*F. you'll never see anything anywhere remotely close to that in TX. in 4 years in dallas, i've only seen it get below 32*F a handful of times each winter, and thats in the middle of the night. its not like its below freezing all day every day for 3 months straight.

I live in the panhandle, we see negative tempatures multiple times during the winter. But if I lived down south i would not bother with it.

You obviously have not lived in the panhandle. It snowed 6 inches in May a couple years back. It's already in the low 40s here in Amarillo.

If it dips into a cold spell, as in freezing for a while, and I plan to drive the car...

I'll go from a 5w30 to a 0w30, but I like to follow books...lol

In any N/A vehicles I have ever owned, all I ever use is Amsoil or Castrol.

This car gets castrol 5w30 dino oil.
