got lucky!
so since my radar detector was lighting up like christmas the entire drive, i was not pressing my luck with speed. up ahead i see a brown crown vic, non police model, with regular license plates. however, i can see a trunk mount antenna clear as day. i approach with caution. i can see his smokey bear hat sitting on the dash, and i see him looking at every single car that drives by him. obviously a cop. well he's going 65 in the right lane, and its a 70mph zone, and cars are blowing by him and he isnt doing anything. i decide to pass him. as long as i use my signals and dont go over 70, i'll be fine, right? wrong!

the second i pass him, he throws the lights on. i pull over, turn off the car and hand him my stuff. he tells me that he stopped me for no front license plate. then i get a little lightbulb over my head... "oh, ****... ya know what, the plate is on there, i just put the cover back on over it because i was in a camaro/firebird car show at the state fair last weekend and i havent driven the car since, and i forgot all about it... if you got a screwdriver on you, i can take the cover back off right here." he says 'well, i dont have a screwdriver, but i'm going to give you a written warning for that... there's no fine or anything, just get it taken care of.'

now of course that is pure coincidence that the fair was last weekend... but i would have used a similar excuse regardless. my first time getting stopped for no front plate in 13 years of not having one, and i actually got a warning... only in TX would I ever get a warning from a Statie!
