if its not your DD, then bribe a friend with pizza and beer. i did my k-member install myself, but it would have taken less than half as long if i had an assistant. i just followed the instructions i got from BMR. and if you are swapping out the k-member, it would be a good time to install some poly motor mounts

slowz28camaro 03-23-2010 03:50 PM

i am going to attempt to do it with a friend, also i got umi,
are the bmr instructions better?

I will have some Poly motor mounts for sale in about a week.

the mounting positions are the same regardless of brand, so who you get the instructions from doesnt matter. BMR has them downloadable to a PDF on their site, i dont think UMI has them on the site... they might be able to email them to you if you email their support dept.

the only thing i deviated from on BMR's instructions was that i didnt disconnect the steering rack hoses... i just loosened them up just enough so they could swivel, but not lose fluid, then i bungee corded the rack to the motor. if you dont mind playing with the fluid and cleaning it up afterwards, it would be easier to totally disconnect and remove it.

Pavlock did the upper/lower BMR control arms on my Trans Am, did a great job, no complaints

RAMAIRTA18 03-26-2010 10:17 PM

i can take care of it for you at the body shop let me know

slowz28camaro 03-28-2010 03:35 PM

hey guys thanks for the offers, but me and my bronlaw just finished today in the morning. we used my dads lift and his few tools very few tools...

Also the umi installation instructions aren't as good as the bmr ones

slayer_taunu 03-30-2010 08:17 AM

how did your alignment come out? after my k-member install, the shop got it close, but coudln't get it perfect. i'm thinking since you did A-arms as well, they'd have more flexibility in the alignment.

slowz28camaro 03-30-2010 02:15 PM

took the car to sears for the alignment and it is as straight as an arrow

redz_02 03-30-2010 06:51 PM

installing the a-arms shouldn't be an issue. Kmember on the other hand, a tad bit more work. I plan on doing a tubular kmember when I pull my engine next year.

Do they work well with the stock rack? I had a umi kmember in my fox body, but it would only work with a manual rack.

slowz28camaro 03-30-2010 09:51 PM

yeah kmember works with the stock steering rack...

but they do have a kmember that uses a different rack, a pinto rack i think
