Summersville Lake has some of the clearest/ best looking water I've seen. We actually had a summer house about 45 mins from Summersville.[/QUOTE]

Yes it does! I got to take the boat out while I was there, had a blast

Well, here in the DFW Metroplex we'll get some tornados every now and then, mostly in rural areas though... As far as hurricanes, we don't worry about them too much, since we are a few hrs away from the coast. But, I will tell you, there is nothing like Texas weather. Only in Texas, well here in Dallas anyways, the weather can go from snowing and sleeting one day to being 85 to 90 degrees the next day and vice versa.

This is a major metropolitan city breakdown from a glass is half empty kind of guy:

San Antonio (haven't spent much time here)- high crime from MS13 wannabe thugs, scorpions, lots of tourists, the Spurs are better than the Rockets , highway system sucks!

Austin (visit fairly often)- lots (LOTS!) of pot smoking hippys/weirdos , moderate crime related to drug trafficking, I'm not a UT fan haha, I've grown out of the party scene, more than its share of uppity ******

Dallas Fort Worth (I hate you DFW )- high crime if you get into the wrong areas, winters are too cold for my taste, mysterious traffic jams, Dallas Stars are better than Houston Aeros haha, no access to the beach but nice lakes

Houston (my home town)- real crime I notice but I don't read other cities' newspapers, traffic is retarded, everything is spread apart because the city is designed for lots of satellite cities (Clear Lake, Pearland, Woodlands, Katy, etc.) but gas is relatively cheap, our economy is tied directly to the oil/gas market, Galveston LITERALLY causes death

Corpus Christi - you'll be separated from the other major cities, I'm not familiar with Corpus and don't know of anything really wrong with it except for the heavy college parties around spring break

Very few tornados in Houston, flooding-most likely in heavy rainstorms. hurricanes-rock you like one. Hurricane Ike came thru here in 08 and made its way all the way to Pennsylvania. I was a big storm. My house by the coast had no damage, but my wifes on the west side of H town had to roof blown off. North of I10, the housing building codes are not as strict. No hurricane straps and they staple the roofs on instead of nail and washer.

I have been to most of cities and have family and friends that have lived in all of them. I know most people like houston or austin. houston for all of the amenities it has and the abundance of things to do. I am from a small town of bellville, which is about 45 min from katy, 1 hr 15-30 to houston, 1 hr 30 min to austin, 3 hrs to san antonio, about 2 hrs to the gulf with some fairly decent beaches. anywhere in the bellville/brenham/sealy area is a great place to stay, very low crime and decent schools. house prices for 3br/2ba range from 150-200 for fairly new homes. if you are interested in looking for houses, go to www.txls.com and you can search for houses in all areas of texas. and if you want help looking for a house in that area, my mom is a real estate agent there

I would prefer to live somewhere that has a good mix of people/cultures so that my girlfriend and I will both be comfortable.(I'm white, she's mexican) Another state we are considering is AZ so present you case or info for/against AZ also.

Thanks in advance for your input.

Quakes aren't that bad...only two medium ones in the 2yrs I've been here. No fires or mud slides yet, thankfully.
