Some Q's regarding dropping the engine. Finally getting around to dropping/swapping the motor on my v-slow camaro. I've everything just about ready to come down... lost my T-50 torx bit for the shock tower though, so gotta wait till tomorrow to get everything out. Just wondering how the driveshaft is held to the transmission and how I would go about dropping the tranny and motor. It's a t5, but I think it's similar enough to the t56. Its connected to the tail shaft of the transmission, same piece my shifter is connected. Do I need to unbolt that? It seems like there's some lateral play in it, as if I could just pull it out from the tail shaft? Also, I've got the 6 bolts that hold the subframe removed. Car is on jack stands, with a motorcycle jack pressed up against the K member. Once the shock tower bolts are off, I should be able to simple lower the motorcycle jack and pull it forward right ( given i figure out the drive shaft situtation)? I've got brake lines free, fuel lines out, AC compressor + heater hoses disconnected, sway bar endlinks disconnected, steering shaft disconnected, and PCM and the wire running into the firewall all out too. Am I forgetting anything? |
Unbolt the driveshaft from the rearend, and then just pull it out of the tailshaft. You might wanna leave it hanging if you havnt drained your transmission fluid. It will save you from taking a transmission fluid bath. Don't forget your powersteering, make sure you disconnect it. |
I see. Damn then... guess I'll be draining the tranny after all. Powersteering should drop down with the subframe, no? Or did you mean the fluid tank? |
what's the procedure to remove the drive shaft? I have the engine + tranny lowered, just can't seem to get the drive shaft out of either the tail end of the tranny nor the rear diff. Got the 4 11mm bolts that hold the driveshaft in place, but the shit is so rusted it won't budge. ideas? |
use a pry bar and push the ds into the tranny to clear the axle, then pull it out of the tranny. It worked for me. |
Yeah I think it's just rusted in place.. stupid v6's and steel DS :( |
