Default Maintenance/Mod time.... PICS!

So, the Firehawk had a leaking header, running rich as hell, water pump went out, and just had to replace the alternator and battery. This just tells me that it's time to take this thing apart, replace all the gaskets, and possibly do some modifications. Here's what I've done in the past 3 days of working on it on and off.







As you can see the headers were rusted to a nice burnt orange with plenty of dirt on them. The heads look like the manifold has never come off of the vehicle. I bought this with 109k on it so maybe this job is long overdue. I should have the valve covers and heads off by tomorrow, I already have the water pump off and will have more pics soon!

I would not mess with the heads unless you are changing the lifters. Head gaskets do not just go out

I know it will be a lot of tedious work getting the graphite gasket off of the block but I'm willing to do it and then I'm sending the heads off to get ported and polished. I'm also looking to swap the cam out so lifters, rockers, push rods, and springs might get replaced. I don't exactly need the car running until mid to end of September. I just got the water pump and the valve covers off. Here are the pics of the progress. I will be taking the heads off tomorrow.

That engine bay is really dirty. Good luck with the rebuild.

As far as you are going with it you could have just pulled the motor and done everything on a stand.

Take the rockers off, put valve covers back on, get 2 gallons for Purple power, get a pressure washer and do work.

I wish I would have gotten some before pictures but this motor looked as bad as yours and here is what it loked like when cleaned up.

Chad, that looks really good and clean. I'm gonna do the wire relocation mod on the passenger side of the engine bay. I'm looking to switch out the cam, port, polish, and deck the heads, new long tubes, and maybe an intake... not sure if I want the LS6 or a FAST product yet. I'm going with the Meziers(sp?) electric water pump to replace the old rusted and busted thing. I haven't been able to do much work right now since I'm in Austin for training with a new job. I will be back at it with more before and after pics once I get back in town! The heads are off at this point so I'll have pics of that too in a day or two.

Got more pictures! took the heads off and started some cleaning. The picture only shows the head off, not the cleaning. I also did the wire mod on the passenger side of the engine bay. I will have pics of that in the next few days but like I said earlier I have to do training for my new job so progress on pics and work on the car will be slower than day by day.

If you are looking to clean it up a bit more, replace that vally cover with the ls6 vally cover with the built in pcv. Just did it to mine not long ago. Cheap, and simple.
