Axle help...

Old bearings...

New bearings with about 60 Miles on them replaced the old to get rid of the sound, only lasted about a day before the sound came back but only stronger..

What do ya think? Took it to a shop and they quoted me 1200$, but they only drove it and said it needed all kinds of stuff... like a new ring and pinion for 300 bucks...

I've had my share of trouble with these rears myself. I bought one "rebuilt" to replace the original noisy bearing rear from another local member's for sale ad. It was quite but soon vibrated. I did all kinds of things to try and stop the vibrations but never could. Finally it got so bad that I was able to determine by hand that the pinion flange nut had backed off just a bit from under torquing. So I got one from a salvage yard and it had bearing noise. Dealt with that for a while and finally pulled it apart and replaced the axle and carrier bearings along with flushing out all the old gear oil. So far it's good for the first time ever.
So if I was doing one for a customer at work it's all or nothing. Less headaches for the both of us.
