Anybody know about air compressors?

I picked up an older craftsman 60 gal compressor model# 919-176500 and for one Im not sure how to hook it up to power. It has a red a black and green wire so im assuming its a 120v unit. Anyway, I hooked it up temporarily to an outlet just to see if it would turn on.

It ran for a few and then it started to slow down till it finally clicked and stopped turning. It built press up to about 15 psi. After that, I turned it off and turned it back on and it runs but very slow until it eventually just stops again. Any ideas? I think its a weak motor..

red black green ? sounds like 220 ?

im not %100

But usually 110v is white, black and green.

Sounds like you have to buy a plug and make your own end.

Should say the voltage necc on the electric motor

With a 60gal capacity, I'd bet money it's a 220v unit.

lol I cant believe I didn't think to look at the voltage on the motor. It says 240... thanks guys

Yea, was gonna say, never seen a 120v 60 gal.

220/240 just use your plug where you plug in your dryer.

Hooking it up to 110v could very likely burn up the motor. If it runs weak (or not at all) after connecting to 220v, then it's your bad....
