My close friend lost his brother yesterday- overhaulin his Vette while hes @ Funeral
Hi you guys.
I don't post here much anymore but I know the GM performance community is tight knit and this is important.
One of my close friends, Brian, lost his big brother yesterday. Freak thing, had a routine surgery a few weeks ago and a blood clot killed him as a result.
This was yesterday morning, and I took him to the airport so he could get to the funeral in Florida... But not before hatching a plan to borrow his beloved Vette and surprise him by performing the mods he was always talking about doing to the car, but never had the time or money to actually complete on the car while he is at the funeral. Overhaulin style if you will. The plan is to do an intake, headers and electronic cut-outs with a tune, so the car will finally have the HP to match its looks.
I'm accepting donations directly to my paypal account because I don't have the time to do a gofundme account or something of that nature. I'm not a spammer, scammer or thief and have been on this forum for a long time with a great reputation so you don't have to worry that it'll go to him... We will be documenting the build and surprising him with the car when he gets back. I'll post a video of the reveal.
Brian is also in the process of trying to buy his first house- anything over and above parts and labor costs on the vette is going to him directly to help with his downpayment. My paypal addy is chris_splendoria@yahoo.com and ANYTHING, big or small, helps. Please send as a gift to friends or family so all the money goes to Brian not to Paypal.
Mods, I hope this is OK to post here. Thanks.

First I want to say no disrespect or how this might come off..
But your asking a group of guys to pitch in on a car that runs and drives and most of us can't even afford a stock c6, but to modify this car?
I understand you want to cheer up your pal. Just no sure you will get much of a response on this.

The car cost about as much as a new loaded Corolla. It's not like it's some new Z06.

Sorry for his loss man, Kinda reminds me of a story of a guy on here asking for donations for this "race car" for cancer. Your donation gets you a small sticker of your name on the car? Anyways, good luck with it man hope you can pull it off. It would be one hell of a surprise and put a big *** smile on my face if it was me.

Everyone is entitled to there opinion and I agree with yours. The odd thing is, I have seen other members on here ask for donations because they were in "need" yet they still owned a toy car or two at the time. They weren't asking for money for the cars but I wouldn't dream of asking for a donation unless all of my extra valuables were sold off and I was having trouble providing for my little ones. Then, it would still be extremely difficult and I would consider it a dept that would be repaid at the first opportunity. People gave like crazy on here. I wonder if those folks have offered that cash back.

Agreed, I've had to sell things on the cheap to make bills in the past, and it's obviously no fun, but if you are truly in a desperate situation you will do what you have to do with the toys.

It's all good fellas. I've been able to raise $4500 or so far for the kid and secured sponsorship from TSP, Aikman Performance, Edge Addicts Trackdays, Car Beautiful Mobile Detail, Larry Perez Signs and Graphics, Lake Michigan Metals, and Round Rock Toyota so far to help the build (no affiliation to any mentioned)... But the greatest outpouring of support has been from our close friends, and the central Texas enthusiast community. It's been a massive undertaking to go from having $0 for this to getting this build almost entirely completed in three days. Aikman was working on the car until 1AM weds night/thurs morning getting her buttoned up, despite having to prep their own shop C6 Z06 Carbon for Corvette Invasion in Houston this weekend. Incredible.
Anyway, maybe I should have articulated things better and mentioned that the build is in memorial of both his bro, who was a very well liked firefighter who did a lot of charity work in his community and his cousin, who died as a Marine in Iraq. Vette or no Vette, this guy has had it really f-ing tough and I take care of my friends, any way I can.
Brian is back in town on Monday or Tuesday and all we still have to do is get the cut-outs installed, install the memorial banner on the hatch glass, get the car detailed, and reveal the car to him at Aikman after hours Monday or Tuesday night, where Jerry Aikman is going to throw the car on the rollers and do the final dyno tune right in front of him which should be pretty cool considering he's going from having a box stock C6 to having a cammed, tuned one with the new MSD intake and electronic cutouts. I'm expecting a lot of waterworks from everybody. Should be 20 or 30 people there.
The pics are how the build progressed from weds til now.

While I understand what you are trying to do, I agree with most on here. You mentioned his brother. If you wanted to memorialize for his brother, then you should have done something like build a car up and sell it, then give all the money to his brothers wife and kids. I really don't see how making a brothers car nicer and faster is helping the ones that really need and deserve the help, his sister in law and children.
If I was your buddy that you did this for, I wouldn't keep it. it wouldn't feel right for me to benefit from another persons peril even if its family. My mental anguish isn't and cant be as great as the wife and kids of the brother that died.

I don't think it's fair to quantify pain in such a way, I guarantee their anguish is equal. Brian had a 15 year head start knowing Rick.

I'm actually kind of taken aback by the responses thus far- this forum isn't what it used to be.
Its not my style to donate to his sister and law and then say f you bud, you couldn't be as upset as her.

Don't take me wrong. Each person can choose for themselves. I am speaking of myself and what my beliefs are. If someone wants to give to whatever, give away. When I give, I make sure as much of it as possible goes to a child in need. Most of the time they are completely innocent of there situation.

No, I see what your doing. And I meant the wife can use the cash more than the brother can use a faster car, that's all. I wasn't saying he hasn't had his share of pain in this. But to give him what has monetary value doesn't seem to be as important as the brothers wife getting some money to help her with what she needs. She lost over half her income I am sure when she lost her husband.
Its great that she did have funds donated to her as well through the other deal. That's good. And really, I understand what your doing for him.
But to ask people that don't know him to donate to getting him a faster car, that's where I have the issue. If it were to support his family in a time of need, then yes. I am sure you would get a lot of great response from people that have no connection to him. Heck even I would try to help. But the thing that your doing should be you doing it yourself as a friend to him. That's where it should end as well. One friend helping another. Done.
I hope he likes the work you are doing though, I am sure he will. Hell I would.
