Default 4.8 to 5.3

so I have a truck that came with a 4.8l and I’m wanting more power and I’ve heard that the only difference between a 4.8 and a 5.3 is the crank and the rods so will y’all plz help educate me and tell me if I’m wrong so I don’t go waste money on the parts. And yea I get it “why not just go buy a 5.3” and idc I just want to know about converting it I would rather not buy a new motor yet

Basically just swap the rotating assembly. Crank, rods, and pistons are different.

Most will suggest swapping shortblocks because those extra costs and time of opening a motor. Your money do what you want.

I don't think you understand the costs involved, You can pick up a low mileage 5.3 cheaper than you can turn your 4.8 into a 5.3. If you're not doing the rebuild yourself it's usually cheaper to just to buy a rebuilt short block than to pay someone else to rebuild yours after you figure in the cost of the new rotating assembly.

You can buy a used 5.3 for about a quarter of what it will cost to turn one into a 5.3 then you can sell the 4.8 for what you paid for the 5.3

How does free sound...

I would toss a 5.3 crank in the 4.8 and keep the flat top 4.8 pistons if I were going to convert anything

the 4.8 and 5.3 share almost everything so a stroker kit for one is a stroker kit for the other. And if you do a stroker kit it won't be a 4.8 or a 5.3

If you want to put a little money into it and make it worth doing the swap do a 6.0

Your money do what you want, but building a 5.3 out of a 4.8 is a horrible idea, you'll have a bunch of money and not much of a power gain.
