HELP with overheating now please!!!
About a month ago the low collant light started to come on everyonce in a while. The coolant was full so I figured faulty sensor. My car has a 160 degree stat and the temp usually stayes between 160-180. Now the past 2 days the car will climb to a tad over 210 but I havent seen it go past that. But the weird thing is when I start driving it goes back down to about normal. The fans are turning so I have no idea what to do. My mechanic said there was a TINY leak in the water pump but nothing to worry about. Please help me guys

I'm with floman. Mine behaved the same way, only I don't have a 160* t-stat, so mine went to the mid-range between 210 and HOLY CRAP! Took it to a dealership and they replaced the water pump, to the tune of $738. Problem solved.
It was after this that I made a more concerted effort to fix my own car.

I had the same problem a while back. I thought it was the water pump also, in turned out to be the sensor on the radiator. It takes about 15 min to change it out. The sensor is around $45 at the dealer ship, but if i was you i would fix the leak to.

I had the opposite happen.
My temps were around 190 with the stock thermostat and reprogrammed fans. I put in a 160 thermostat, lost alot of coolant and tried to refill it. Started running around 220 at lights and around 180 as long as I stayed moving.
Flushed the radiator with all new coolant and temps stayed around 190 constant, even at lights. My low coolant light came on last Saturday night. It's since turned off as of yesterday. I think it's the sensor.
