Oswalt on the trading block
No one really knows who brought up Roy's name, but it's very easy and convenient for Drayton and Purpura to say "we didn't bring his name up, the other team did."...since no deals were made.
Do you think with the extra $29 million from Clemens and Bagwell, and possibly another $16.5 million from Pettite will be spent in the offseason on quality players? That's $45.5 million dollars freed up for next season.

You're right, it is easy for them to say that now. Who knows what actually happened. It's all he said/she said.
I don't see the Astros having the 3rd largest payroll again next season, but I hope they do make a big splash in the offseason... even though that hasn't ever really been their style. $45.5 million is a big chunk of cash... I'd be happy with them spending 60% of that in the offseason.
18 of that is to Bagwell which McClain tried to recoup but got denied. I'm not saying that Uncle Drayton didnt dish out some money, but they should have been more active in the trade market and they should have NEVER mentioned Roy's name in a trade, he should have been one player along with Berkman that shouldnt even be mentioned.
He should be mentioned as one of the players the team builds around. That was just stupid in my opinion.
Especially since the deal that was offered was Oswalt/Ensberg/Everitt for Tejada. Talk about a lopsided traded.
