I'm glad they are getting setup....provided they work accurately. I hate it when people run lights. It simply isn't worth the risk. I'm not innocent but I sure try to be.

You know almost every light I come to some one is running through the red. And not because they were going to fast but just plane and simple running it because they can. Its sad when you go through a yellow and you know the person behind you had a red and went through but the person behind them also going through.

Some one said that its going to cause more accidents because people trying to stop at yellows and getting rear ended. Well they most likely were going to fast in the first place, should have been slowing down sooner and the car behind them was probably going too fast and following too close and really shouldn't have been trying to make the light anywise. So at least the people doing the wrong things get in the accident and not the poor innocent person that has a GREEN LIGHT.

2 on richmond and none on Westheimer? This is another one of Bill White's money making ideas, up there with mandatory towing.

I am dubious of the "safety" facade this program carries. It is a problem here, no doubt, but 10 ticket generating cameras scattered about the city does not seem like a rational way to increase safety.

orangeapeel Aug 24, 2006 03:52 PM

I think that they are going for profit.

this is just a pilot program to make sure they have the kinks worked out, and to make sure the cameras work correctly, prior to more sidespread deployment.

pretty simple .. don't run a red light, you won't get a ticket.

Yeah, ok, accidents happen/close calls/unintentional runnings/et cetera.

That is what I am worried about getting right to the intersection and it turns yellow? And getting a ticket how do you fight that? The real reason I don't like it is next they will be using them to issue speeding ticket and see how that makes you feel. I know what you are going to say "Don't Speed" right? Ya right! I don't like people running red lights either, but the alternative might be worse. And before anyone says it I know people get killed at intersections while others are running the light, but they also get killed for other mishaps tires blowing out falling asleep at the wheel you just need to be on your toes when driving and not more cameras.

Gipraw Aug 25, 2006 06:59 AM

haven't seen a final printed version of the ordinance, but if it is like most other states, they will only issue a ticket if the light turns red prior to you entering the intersection.

the last one I received was from downtown Baltimore, MD., as I was rushing to the airport to catch a flight to Atlanta, where my wife had just gone into labor..

the picture they send you with the ticket will show two views .. the first will be you, not yet in the intersection, and the light already red .. the second will you show going through, with the light red.

yes, it sucks to get one .. but it is pretty cut and dried .. just because you didn't do it on purpose doesn't mean that you didn't do it ..

and yes, I agree that one of the main reasons they do it is to generate $$$

Reject Aug 25, 2006 03:12 PM

that just means yall are going to have to start flooring it sooner to make it across the intersection faster
