Default 5.3 Heads

Is there any gain in HP if I bought a set of 5.3 Heads & had them ported, Do I stand to gain any hp. I have a set of stock 2000 heads on the car & they flowed 286 CFM on the Intake & can't remember the Exhaust,

I have heard that these heads rasie my compression, by a point. I can get these for $125 & figure another $500 to port them. What else do I have to do to these heads to run them on my car,

I have a Comp Cam 605 Intake 610 Exhaust 238/242 Duration 115 Lobe Sep

Are these worth the money & the extra money I will have to put in them with new valve springs & keepers & Pushrods & the $$$ to port them. Or would I be better off with something else?

Thanks guys.

Wouldnt be bad but a couple more hundred and you could buy a fully ported set that might help you out just that much more.

your stock heads must be ported to flow in the 280ish range...

5.3's are a good buy... compression helps.... Call Gunnar and have him run the old CnC program on em..... cheap and effective... looking at 295 at .600 and 240ish on the exhaust.

oh yeah... whats is the cam lift... you will need bigger valve for 5.3's to flow decent... be concerned with PTV clearance.

500 port jobs id love to see the power curves on those! sure they will feel stronger, but there will be alot lacking in the curtain area. you wont be flowing much more then what you are now for $500 bucks Ill tell you that right now.

ive got a very good head porter i trust. Try 358 cfm out of some 6.0 castings with bigger valves and non hogged out runner that kills velocity and swirl.. If you really want to do some heads that will make power with that cam, shoot me a pm and ill give you my contact. hes no slouch and a graduate of SAM.
