Default Lidge Gets a raise

This way, when he sucks again, we wont be able to trade him because nobody will want to pick up that 5 million dollar contract on somebody who sees Albert Pujols everytime he closes his eyes.

Yeah, I heard it on Charlie P on the drive home. He had better step it up this year and perform!

His new salary: $5.35 Million

His ERA before the last game of the season: 5.35

Coincidence?

lol.

I hope he earns it this year. Maybe this will give him a shot of confidence and bring him back to the old Lidge.

SatanzWS6 - that is the stupidest thing I think I've heard in 2007 so far. Congrats.

If Lights out Lidge comes back, in September we'll talk about how great of a deal it was. I like Lidge, I want to see him succeed, just dont know if it'll happen.

All you guys need to lay off of Lidge. The guy was the best closer in the game for nearly 2 years. When you only have 2 pitches in your arsenal, and you face the best hitters in the world, you are going to have rought times. Billy Wagner had them, Dan Eckersly (speaking of one dimensional pitchers). He will be fine, he tweaks a mechanic here and there, adds another effective pitch, he will regain his dominance. He sucked last year, but you also have to take into consideration that he just came off of the World Baseball Classic (which I think should be every 4 years) so his annual training regiment (not to mention) season recovery time was totally fucked. He has a boat load of talent, he just needs to re-perfect his stuff, regain his confidence, and he will be back. Plus Phil Pupura doesnt waste a whole lot of money, liek the last GM did, he knows talent when he sees it. oh yeah, Booya...

Doesnt want to waste money? What do you call giving a guy that blew 6 games and countless other holds over 5 million? If they would have kept him on at the current rate or something similiar I can understand that, but to give him a raise? Come on.

Btw, the general managers name is Tim Purpura. The manager is PHIL Garner.

Lidge has amazing talent, it's his MENTAL side that hurts him. There are so many guys in double and triple a right now that can throw 99+ - but don't have the mental part down and will probably never make it.

it was either pony up or go to arbitration and possible have to fork over even more. Obviously they thought there was a possibility the arbitrator would favor Lidge.

You take the chance that he fixes hi sshit, and returns to dominant form, which countless closers have gone through in their careers, and avoid losing him to arbitration or free agency. The Astros have had too many cases where they let people go, that turned out to be allstars. Bobby Abreau, Nolan Ryan, Johan Santana, etc...This is getting depressing, you get the picture by now.

Good assumption but you're sadly mistaken

Lidge let us down soooooo many times in the worst situations. He'd let an easy win go straight down the drain. So what do they do about it? ....a freakin raise

I agree with you guys though that Lidge does have a lot of talent. But he seem to have lost it all mid-late 05 season. I say he has a mental issue with it as well

I can't even count the number of games we had in the bag that he gave up
