Default Best Midsize Suv? (2000-2004)

Need something more practical to equip the family a little better and im not looking to spend more than 6-8k tops. Ive been looking at mostly foreign stuff like pathfinder, qx4, mdx, and I just started looking at envoys. Im open to other stuff but I want something with atleast leather as a option or standard. Anyone with trailblazers or explorers want to attest to reliability / comfort? Im not fond of older gen domestics but will consider if the price is right.

Thoughts, opinions, comments all welcome to narrow my search

I had bought my wife a 04 Lincoln aviator same thing as explorer, right before I left for Iraq so she wouldn't be suck driving the kids around in my trans am for a year. Worst pos I've ever owned. Ford 5spd autos are junk in those vehicles. I got back and bought her a 06 Nissan armada not in your size or price range but its been the best thing I've ever owned. So id go with a pathfinder or qx4 since there the same thing try finding one with 3.5 v6. That's .02cents

A Toyota 4Runner with the 3.4 V6 is pretty much indestructible. Although value for the $$$$ is severely lacking, the resale on even 10+ year old ones is high.

Any Chevy Trailblazer or GMC Envoy with the inline six is a good, solid truck. Interior is kind of cheesy, but they are pretty damn reliable. Don't buy an S10 Blazer, they're pieces of junk IMO.

I agree about 4runners^. Same thing I was going to post. If I was in your shoes, hands down I'd get a 4runner.

A well taken care 2001ish Tahoe with around 100k miles would probably fall within your budget and still have another 100k miles on the clock.

They may be running, but can be plagued with many other problems that are $$$ to fix.

This. I wouldn't buy any Chrysler Co product without a warranty, except maybe their diesel trucks.

Another really good option is an Isuzu Trooper or Rodeo. Simple, very reliable, and amazing off road. Basically you get about the same level of quality and durability of a 4 runner for about half the price. If I lived up in the frozen north and needed a 4x4 SUV, this is what I would buy.

I would go with a Tahoe. 4.8 or 5.3 they should last another 5 years with only minor issues.

I like the trailblazer, and it's been reliable except for the ignition switch. Have got 2 from the dealer, 1 from napa, and 1 from autozone. They are all the exact same part, and all last about a year. I leave 1 and a nut runner in the glove box. I can change it in about 10 minutes.

Always been partial to the Blazer/Trailblazer. Ford Escape isn't bad if you need more gas mileage.
