Head Quarters Marine Corps in Arlington VA. Just up the road from the Pentagon. Our gym was the overflow hospital/morgue. I now work at the Pentagon and am there right now.

I was at my first day of work at the University in Orono. My boss told me to go set up the tv in the cafeteria and turn it on. Set it up and watched in horror as the second plane hit. I dropped to my knees and prayed.

I was in PRISON!! Bad thing was... I was working there at the time.

I had just walked over to the Administration building to check my mail box and noticed there wasn't anyone around... I found everyone in the Officers Barber shop watching the TV. They told me a plane had hit one of the Towers and then we saw the second plane hit.

I was actually on an airline flight during the attacks.

Within 5-6 weeks, I was back in the states and saw the Pentagon from I-395 as I drove past (distance of just a couple hundred yards). The next day I headed up to Rye, NY and passed NYC. I could see the hole in the skyline and the smoke. (Remember the WTC burned for 100 days).

As I was then a member of our active duty military, I took the attack on the Pentagon personally. I had worked in D.C. fall of '99 to summer of '00 and caught the Metro every weekday below the Pentagon.

Fellow Americans, do not be lulled into a sense of complacency. Islamic radicals are some really sick bastards and they will gladly slaughter another 3000 innocent people if given the chance. We have been exceeding fortunate that many plots have been broken up and attacks thwarted over the last 6 years.

Watch the movie "Flight 93" and read the book "The Looming Tower". The book was written by Lawrence Wright, who is an Austinite and it won a 2007 Pulitzer Prize

I was in my barracks room asleep at Cherry Point, NC. We had been working 15 hr nights and I had no idea what happened until I was on my way to work that afternoon. The base was going nuts, everything was on lockdown and base security was tight.

Ill never forget that day, My dad came in my room and yelled at me for parking my car in the front lawn between the trees. (ive never done that in my life and I thought it would be funny to do). So I moved the car and my dad starts telling me that a plane had accidently run in to the WTC........I was like no F***ing way.......so i watched the news (CNN) and sure enough they were showing a helicopters view of the WTC. Then about 5 mins into the news broadcast, we see the other plane hit. Immediatly I felt sick to my stomach.........One of my good friends dad actually had meetings in WTC because he is the VP of sales for Olympus. So I was kinda freaking out about him and his family. (turns out he was in NYC but not near the trade centers)I think it was either my first or second day of college EVER and they cancelled classes and we got to go home. The day after was kinda wierd too.......

Wow that's pretty crazy.

Did Quantico make everyone carry thier gas masks with them everywhere they went after that? My unit did for like 2 weeks... like 43 Area @ Camp Pendleton would be a prime target.

I would think that the Pentagon would be cool place to be assigned though.

I was in New York City on a ferry. Saw the first plane just as it was going in, worst thing I have ever heard in my life. The second plane was even more terrifying. It seemed like it would cut the building in half. I was there with the University of Maryland History Department. There were twenty two of us on the ferry total and we had a front row seat to watch what happened. The police boats stopped us so they could search and make sure that we werent involved since our ferry left the dock literally seconds before the planes hit.

Its still somewhat surreal, knowing that twenty minutes prior to them getting hit, I was standing beneath them looking up and admiring them.
