From 1998 I've said 1 vs 4, 3 vs 2 then winners for the NC game...
Make the season still very important, drop 1 game and you may be done...that's what makes CFB so exciting to me is every week is a playoff game in a sense. Open it up anymore than that and eh...loses something to me.
