Default Why????...........

is my car a slow POS?
I cannot for the life of me figure out why I can't get better times out of my car. I recently had a new clutch installed, same as the one I had before, a RAM 6130. I have had these mods installed a little at a time over the last 4-5 years. It was my daily driver for like the first two years. It dyno'd 400 RWHP and 375 RWTQ. Not much true, but at least should have gotten 7's at the track. The best time we have ever gotten was an 8.0 at about 95 mph. I am a girl and don't get quite as good times as my son does when he drives, but we still can't get this deal. I have had some people tell me suspension should be changed. Some people say tire pressure. I have MT ET streets and have tried anywhere from 12 psi to 23 psi with little variance. I would value and appreciate any help or advice you guys can give me. Thanks so much.

Change the settings on the adj lower control arms?
Are you spinning or hopping off the line?

Are you bogging off the line? If so, thats why. 6 speeds are not easy to launch unless everything is set up just right (suspension, gearing, etc). Seat time is also a great mod if everything else is right.

Historically speaking cars equipped with manual transmissions have been slower than autoatics, when talking in terms of street cars at the track of course. One big reason is indeed they can bog at the line.

The way to overcome that is releasing the clutch at a high rpm. The inherent problem with that is of course the suspension... it the power is not put to the ground the car will not leave hard.

What rpm are you leaving with on the hit?

How much of a burn out do you do?

And, what is your 60' time?

Sorry so long to respond, I go to work at 4am and I had to go to bed. Usually when I launch, I do a pretty good burn out, which is easier for me now with this line lock. My foot was not big enough before to dump the clutch and hold the brake at the same time. So I can get the tires pretty sticky. The launches are pretty good, I usually launch easier than my son. I only launch at about 3500-4000. Any more and I find it bogs too much. He launches around 4500 I think. Historically I usually get a little better 60 ft I think because I launch easier, but mine is around 2.0 -2.2. He has been getting 1.8-2.0 these last few runs. Now I am basing this only on what the car has done since this new clutch has been put in. Before I ran with a RAM 6130 that worked like a champ, but still the best time ANYONE ever got out of it was an 8.0 with a 1.8 60 ft. So we figue with this new clutch and relocation brackets, we will be set. Hell no, it is no faster, and almost even slower. The first few times we ran it, we both hit the rev limiter almost every gear change. Something we never do. We thought the clutch was slipping, but no clutch smell, shifts beautifully, no way. Then we thought the tires were spinning, but that just couldn't be true with these MT's. So we are at at loss. Now last week we played with the tire pressure and it seemed to do best with 20 psi. We have tried anywhere from 12 to 23 psi with little or no diff. So now people are saying maybe it is suspension. But I just can't believe that would make that much difference. The car is lowered but this never seemed to be a problem before. I know there are f-bods out there with the same set up or less, and they are getting 7's. But most are auto's too. I go to Redline and if anyone goes out there, I would be happy to let someone with more know how have a look at it.

With those suspension mods and tires you should be seeing 1.6-1.7 60's with no real effort.

I know, I agree. And I would take the blame being a girl driver and all, but I have been racing it for the last 5 or so years and usually do well. But my son also drives it and I have let a friend or two of his try in the past, all having experience, and they do no better. Any other suggestions?

And to add more to the story.......
Doesn't matter what RPm you leave at, once you stand in it and get up to about 5500 RPM, it seems to "break loose". Even shifting through the gears 1-2 2-3 it still spins. Some people suggested the clutch, however the car goes into every gear twsting the **** out of it perfectly, there is absolutly no smell of clutch and the clutch still feels the same. We've tried anywhere from 11 psi to 23 psi in the rear tires. 2000-4500 rpm launches.

Keep in mind to that NO OTHER prep has been done either. I.E. front sway bar, stock 90k mile shocks, no weight reduction, etc.

Even at the 330 mark, the car will still spin.

Sorry Donald, she doesn't want to pull wheels and drag bumper for some reason.

Is it spinning both rear tires or just one? Something is wrong with your rear end or with the suspension if its spinning that far out. I didn't have a lot of luyck with the mt et street radials on my NOVA either. But I put down way more than 400 hp and it didn't break loose at the 330 either. Try some reg. et streets they worked better for me. The street radial have to get really hot to work good also.

Do you have a full spool or a posi unit in the 12 bolt? It could be a problem with the posi unit.

Has a posi in it. It has the highest everything that MOser sells for a 12 bolt. When you do a burnout, both wheels spin with no problem.

Hmm, but when its spinning down the track is it one wheel or both?
