I need to replace air compressor's pressure switch with something else. I've had this Campbell Hausfeld compressor for about 3 years and I've had the pressure switch replaced twice. The little red knob always breaks off and we have no way to turn on the compressor. Can I replace the little red switch with something else like a light switch or something? Or is there a better option? I'm just tired of fighting with the switch for 5 minutes everytime I want to turn on the compressor. This is what the part looks like. It's the red knob that keeps breaking/falling apart. http://cgi.ebay.com/Air-Compressor-P...item3a5cf6699d |
Actually, I should have worded things differently. I just want to make a new on/off switch. I need my compressor this weekend. Can I just take a screwdriver and jump the black wire to the white wire and hold it there 'til the compressor is at the right psi? |
Should work, yes. |
i have seen pressure switch with a lever. |
I just talked to a buddy, he said I would have fried myself if I would have touched that 220V wire with a screwdriver...that's enough to scare me. I decided to just let a real electrician show me how to wire it up correctly and not mess anything up. I'm gonna see if tractor supply has any of those lever types switches. Thanks ya'll. |
The compressor should be controlled at the breaker.. not the psi switch. Your electrician can wire in a remote contactor that will remove the hi load from the psi sw. The psi sw then becomes a low load controller, only. Take a look at the high end compressors... They use the remote. It's not all that much $$ to make a fool proof control. |
