Wasnt sure were to post this but i was looking into geting a 2 post lift for my new garage. I need one that can lift my truck wich is diesel wich is heavier and i need one to lift my trans am. I was wondering what brands everyone uses. Kinda leaning on the bendpak thanks

I'm on Garage Journal forum as well, and if you really want the best discussion I'd suggest posting over there. Not that people here aren't knowledgable, but that forum is very high traffic and all about stuff like this.

As far as made in the US, I don't think you'll find much of anything - as far as I know almost all the manufacturers build in China now.

What's your budget? One major split you need to make is if you want an ALI certified lift. They are a US based regulator for car lifts and only certify a lift if it meets their criteria (most notably they test it at 150% of its posted load rating). Do your research on them though, because a non certified lift isn't by any means "unsafe" either, and you're generally paying 35-50% more for a certified.

I have an Elite 9,000 lb lift, and its not certified, but from what I've used it for it's very sturdy and well made. It's quite a robust unit and has all the safety features any other lift has. You can get them for a very good price through Greg Smith in the US.

Ha! Very true, lots of ridiculous garages over there that will make you feel inadequate. But if you're looking for lots of opinions on specific lifts it's a great place to post.

BendPak 13 years and I picked it up used. Not one problem. I would recommend that if you have the ceiling height, go with a top beam model not one with a floor plate. Makes trans jacks and oil buckets a lot easier to move around.

Rotary lift, I have one built in the 80's and called them about assembly instructions, They e-mailed me the PDF file I needed and also sent me paper copies of them and a parts list incase I needed anything. They still stock parts for it after all these years.

I went with an inexpensive two post lift without the upper bar, and I will echo the above about trans jacks and the like being a little more difficult to use with that style and in some cases and I had to remove the tunnel cover to use them. Another mention I will make is one of the reasons mine was in expensive was the safety catch release was manual. there is a pull cord on each post. That is a total pain in the *** to deal with if you dont go all the way up. So look into one that has a handle latch or a pneumatic release that operates both latch's

Ive been back into looking for a lift, I had a full height without top bar for years. Ive since moved out of the space and didnt have the ceiling height to bring it with me. Im in a basement garage now, and this is my long term house so I want something but am having a hard time making selections. My absolute preference would be an in ground due to the ceiling height and space constraints of the area I want to put it its not really wide enough for the posts. Since I now I will at some point build a house I dont want to put an expensive permanent lift in. The alternative is a mid height scissor lift or a full height scissor lift that I can later take with me I just cant use it to its full range due to the ceiling height, but if im being honest if I get to actually build the garage I want space wont be an issue up or accross. Id really like to get it up enough were I can atleast sit on a roll seat under the car, mid heights dont really accomplish that.

If I remember correctly all lifts are really Challenger lifts, they just paint them and rebrand them for other companies atleast within the US.

Is there a benpak lift that can be used in a 2 car garage without issue (be able to pull 2 cars in) or is it a PITA dealing with that kind of a lift in that kind of space? This doesn't look to bad. Garage is 21 feet wide and it's a 4-post HD9 Bend Pak. Brakes and suspension will need extra time to setup to work on. My garage is only 18.5 ft wide, so maybe the narrow 100" HD-9ST will work.

I have an 18.5' wide garage with an Elite 9K 2-post lift, and I definitely don't have room to fit a second car beside it. I don't mind because I use that side as more of a workshop with my tools and a bench, but if it's a priority of yours you better do the measuring beforehand.

NUSSBAUM. Not made in the US entirely but German is better than China for damn sure. There is also a company out of Dallas Texas that builds one hell of a lift but I don't recall the name (it's been a while since I purchased mine). Most lifts are engineered to be strong but a NUSSBAUM is built to be strong out of real thick steel. I lifted cars on mine before I even bolted it down to make sure it was not a POS. The NUSSBAUM feet are also huge which helps if your concrete isn't as thick. I will tell you how though, they are expensive.
