I found the BEST three-jaw puller finally
I've been working on GENIII motors for over 6 years now. I have broke probably 5 3-jaw pullers on crank pullies. I have fought with them trying to keep the jaws aligned and cussed them when they wouldn't break the pulley loose off the crank snout. Well, my latest victim was my trusty 3-jaw that I had used many times in the past 2 years and had only failed me once but didnt break until the other night. I actually pulled the threads on the bolt this time. It was a craftsman, very fine piece and very strong...until i got ahold of it. Well, I took it back and got a new style. Its not craftsman but I had used one like this before. Its called a pro-lock or something like that but its $80 at Sears and has this "cage" that holds all 3 jaws in perfect alignment to one another. It will actually hang on the pulley without tightening down the center bolt. I got it home, put it up to the cank pulley on this particular car, and with little force and 5 mins I had the pulley off. I was amazed. Money well spent!
Also, another trick I have always used after you bottom out on the crank pulley bolt due to the short threads, place about a 6" 3/8" extension down into the crank snout (it will go right past the threads and not mess them up) and place your puller bolt against that. I have always used this trick but after reading in the this forum today I saw people were buying all-thread to gain those few extra inches they needed to fully pull the pulley off. It will work also but I am sure anyone has extensions laying around whereas all-thread you'd have to go buy.

Sounds pretty damn cool. I broke one of the little tabs that you hook the puller on too when I was trying to get my pulley off. I tried to flip the jaws around and pull that way but couldnt get the jaws to stay on. Do you think I could use this puller to get it off?

GrannySShifting, I called the Sears store in Jacksonville, Fl. ( I live in Michigan ) and found they are indeed selling them for $79.99, unfortunately they don't ship....anyone in that area needs to get one of these ASAP before the price goes up.

They have them in various sizes. That may be the cost delta. I have one, they are pretty good.
