Dremel's for porting i am going to buy a dremel for "here and there" uses around the house. i was wondering if any of you guys use a dremel for porting or finishing of intake pieces. i was thinking of lightly porting my MAF and possibly my LS6 intake to get slightly better flow out of them after my cam install. anyone ever do this before? if so, which attachment do you guys use? Thanks |
I've ported my MAF with a dremel, and used sandpaper to make sure it was smooth. It definitely made a difference in the response. But I would be careful about the manifold, a dremel doesn't go to well with plastics, it creates to much heat sometimes and will melt instead of grind. Attachments, I used what ever the cone shaped dark grey tip is, but ran through about 3 tips. Good luck. |
you are gunna hurt more than help with porting the maf. the maf is tuned to go with the computer and u have to recalibrate the maf when porting because its letting more amount of air through. i wouldnt touch that ls6 either, thats a damn good intake and if you ever wanted to sell it you never would be able to find a seller. i wouldnt waste my time with doing either of the two, you will be dissappointed that you did, imo. |
I ported my throttle body with a dremel and used sandpaper to smooth it out. Gonna pull it off this week and do it again because I didn't go crazy and still got insane throttle response and a definite increase in power. Gotta get some higher grit sandpaper and make it smooth as hell. Time consuming though to say the least and I hated the carbide bit. I wished I could have just used those sandpaper wheels the whole time but they wear out too fast. |
If your going to "port" the intake manifold, use a carbide bit because it won't clog with plastic. |

i might massage the manifold by hand when its off then, thanks for the info guys. i'll talk to my tuner about porting the maf then. |
