SOLVED: Can't post attachments? I wrote a couple of docs (xlsx and docx, both show as approved attachment formats) for pushrod length checking and tried to attach them in the 3rd gen engine forum. "Upload" looked like it was grayed out. When I clicked upload, the window closes and nothing is attached. I previewed the post and nothing is there. I have disabled all ad blocking and tracker blocking. Any ideas what is happening? Thanks. EDIT-SOLUTION: Problem was using Libre Office program to write documents (.ods and .odt) then saving them as MS documents. Opened & saved them in MS programs and they are now recognized. |
https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...e363014fd4.png Working for me. Upload button is grayed out until you provide some files, such as via the Browse Your Device option, and then it will become active when there is content to actually upload. I'd first suggest clearing your browser's cache, making sure all 3rd party extensions are disabled, and try again. Beyond that, you will need to provide some basic details. Such as the browser, browser version, desktop or mobile theme, desktop or mobile device, etc., that is being used so that we can investigate based on the same setup. |

I tried both selecting and drag/dropping files, same non-result. Cleared cache, already disabled ad/tracker extensions, same result. Browser is Firefox 86.0.1 64 bit. OS is Win 7-64 Pro on an AMD CPU PC. I'll try again from my Win 10 laptop. EDIT Posting from laptop now, still can't post attachments. |
I use Firefox myself, although not Windows 7, and the previous post was done using it. I see you've uploaded before so I assume you know what you're doing. This may be an issue with Windows 7 as I seem to recall seeing a similar report that I can't locate at the moment. That said, Windows 7 support by Microsoft has ended quite some time ago and it's basically a "use at your own risk", "use while accepting things may not work", etc., type deal.

I tried my Windows 10 laptop and couldn't post an attachment, I'm now posting from a second older Win 7 laptop and trying to attach a .docx file. It's not showing up like they normally do, so it looks like the same result. |
2 Attachment(s) I'm not sure I'm following what you mean by not showing up like thy normally do. I created and uploaded a docx and xlsx file and attached to this post without any issue. |
When I typed showing up, that mean in the past when I made an attachment, I could see it as attached before I clicked submit the post. Now I see nothing. Yes indeed yours are showing up. What is kind of confusing here is this at the bottom of the page when I reply: Posting Rules You may post new threads You may post replies You may post attachments  You may edit your posts Fortunately it wasn't that important, just wanted to share a couple of documents. I will also try another browser to see if that changes anything. |
Chrome browser Testing with Chrome Version 89.0.4389.90 (Official Build) (64-bit). I now see "javascript" when I hover over "Upload" (which is still dimmed). I think I don't have that enabled, so I'll change a setting. Still no-go. |
Back on FF, checked and javscript was enabled for both browsers. Disabled all extensions and an AV service I use. Still no difference. Oh well. |

For reference, the upload was changed quite some time ago (atleast 1 year ago). The handling of the non picture content is slightly different than years ago. You will see something like this: https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...87bd32defd.jpg |
Images are OK, have an idea 1 Attachment(s) I uploaded a jpg OK: https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/ls1tech...d069a97a91.jpg I think the issue may be my xlsx and docx files were created in Libre Office and saved as the MS extensions. I opened the test file in Excel, and saved it via that program. It shows as successfully attaching. Mystery solved! Thanks for your time & help. :thumb: |
