Who's online..

Whats happend to the list of peeps that are on the board at the bottom of the home forums page? Brains doing some work again tonight? :) PS the site doesn't show how many viewers are in each section

Brandon Boomhauer Feb 17, 2006 07:03 PM

this site hasnt shown that in a long time.

you can add users you know to your buddy list and see if they are online there, but as for it being on available, what does it help really? I've never went through a list of 1200+ people to find one person, just use the member list.

Brains Feb 17, 2006 07:07 PM

Yeah, we finally decided having that huge list of usernames at the bottom might have "looked neat" but it really wasn't useful to find people.. Just too many names, especially after I turned off sorting. By eliminating having to query and display all that data, it helps preserve system resources and keep site speed up. We'll be making some more changes here and there to improve performance as well...

Okay thanks Brains.

Nope even this afternoon at work if you were on the forum home page every registered user was at the very bottom of the page(I am a computer phucktard so if this sounds dumb, understand its source :) ) but all registerd users showed and everyone on my buddy list had + marks by there name. As of tonight there is just a # of peeps online, etc. Thanks for any clarification. :)

Brandon Boomhauer Feb 17, 2006 07:56 PM

that first line was in reference to who's in what forum, I dont recall how long its been since i've seen that.

Camaroholic Feb 17, 2006 08:15 PM

I think they're talking on the main LS1Tech page, Brandon. It was indeed up until Brains disabled it this afternoon.

I think the users list was kind of cool when we first started the site. There were only a hundred or so names on there to keep up with. Really didn't do much once we got into the 1000+ online figures. Just use your buddy list to keep up with who's online.

Tony

Sorry Tony but I disagree, there are times when there is a heated topic on the board when say a individual is called out (example: a bad seller) and you dont have them on your buddy list but you can see them online at the bottom of the page and if they dont respond if makes you kinda wonder, this might sound petty but it was benifical, just my .02. Thanks

Brains Feb 19, 2006 11:54 AM

It only takes two mouse clicks to add someone to your buddy list... ;) Click on their name, then click on "Add so-n-so to your buddy list."

That feature slows the site at our load level, but it was a neat feature.

slowpoke96z28 Feb 19, 2006 03:01 PM

i liked it because it was easy to find threads i had replied to to see updates without having to subscribe to every thread i replied to.

Brains Feb 19, 2006 03:05 PM

 Those two things are not related..

ss rally red Feb 19, 2006 09:54 PM

An example of this is going on in a thread that questions Young at Byunspeed(hope spelling is right) because he only beat the best price for a product for a member by only a "dollar" Young fufilled his promiss to the "customer" and the asshat "questioned" his customer service, this is the reason its important for members to always see who is always online at certain times, this site is awesome BECAUSE the online status of members in despute have to explain there sides in full if both sides can be proved to be on site at the same time, hope this makes since.

a person's profile was the first in the list. for example, for me, "slowpoke96z28" was the first name. i could click on that, click search for other posts by this user, and find all my recent posts without having to subscribe to EVERY single thread i replied to. it made for quick updates while at work and saved a little time. get it now?

Nine Ball Feb 19, 2006 10:38 PM

ummm, that still works. Click on your own name and you should be able to find more posts by yourself.

Brandon Boomhauer Feb 19, 2006 11:22 PM

but subscribing to threads is easily setup in the user cp, and when you come to the site, you can click user cp and see threads that you've replied or subscribed too...
plus, that eases up on the amount of searching that has to go on..

Morbid Feb 20, 2006 12:29 AM

Ha, I didn't even notice the "Who's Online" thing missing. I always had it collapsed.

Ahh, I understand what you're talking about now :)

Try this -- upper right corner, click "Quick Links" then My Profile. That should get you to what you're looking for.
