What is the point of a Mod maker thread?

When you create a mod marker, every time you read all the new threads that are above it, you "bump" the mod marker thread. That means, the next time you view the forum, all the threads now above the mod marker have changed.
Its a good way to keep track of threads you haven't checked yet, as it doesn't rely on software tricks from the server that may or may not function/be accurate.
