1990 Plymouth Laser Turbo (DSM)
It's a Laser! Haha, sorry, I couldn't resist.
I bought this car a year ago from a guy who ran a speed shop in Michigan dedicated to DSM cars. He built the car from the ground up. Here are the details:
1990 Plymouth Laser RS-T
Front-wheel drive
5-speed Manual trans
210K miles on body, 10K miles on motor and other parts (described below)
Exterior/Interior mods
Black 17'' Gunmetal wheels w/ nice tires
Tinted rear and side triangle windows
Mechanical Oil Pressure Gauge, Boost Gauge (wired for water temp and voltage behind HVAC controls, gauges come with car)
No radio but has Sony Xplode speakers
Datalogger cable
Caps were replaced on ECU, the board is clean
Turbo Timer
Manual fan switch
Engine Mods
-7.8:1 JDM Pistons
-ARP Hardware
-Shot-peened and polished 1g Big Rods
-Balance shafts eliminated
-Revised 3g lifters
-Rebuilt head with 5-angle valve job
-SX Fuel Pressure Regulator w/ gauge underhood
-255 LPH Fuel Pump w/ relay
-Fidanza flywheel
-EVO GT Turbo
-Hallman Manual Boost Controller
-Modded 1g BOV
-3 inch exhaust (no cat) w/ Magnaflow muffler
-Prothan motor mounts
-Ported 2g manifold and 02 housing
Suspension mods
-Energy suspension bushings all around
-Upgraded rear sway bar
-Front Strut Tower Bar
-Stainless Brake Lines (I believe)
-Eibach lowering kit w/ KYB shocks
Parts w/ 10K miles
-New OEM Water and oil pumps
-Clutch, clutch slave and master cylinders
-Alternator
-Both Half shafts
-Radiator and hoses
Known issues:
The trans came from a lower mileage 91-94 unit. From what the original owner said, it should have about 70K on it now. It grinds second, of course, but only when the trans is cold. The shift linkage requires some duct tape to work well, but works fine as it is. The paint is pretty rough. Definitely could use a new paint job, but it's not awful. The body is in decent condition, considering the mileage and age.
Both headlights work. Rear wiper works, all lighting and windows work. This was my daily driver for a year, and I'm upgrading now. It's surprisingly quick to me, and my other car is a Z06. I've only had the boost at 10 psi because it's my DD and I want to get decent mileage. I get about 20 around town, about 28 on the highway. It doesn't smoke, no idle surge, idles at 950 on the dot. The timing belt was changed 10K miles ago using all Mitsu genuine parts. Any other questions, feel free to ask!
Price: $2600

The turbo is an aftermarket unit that uses the same compressor and exhaust parts that is found on the EVO. Outside of that, I'm not too familiar with this setup, I'm not super knowledgable about turbos. The guy who built the car said that turbo is good to 400 fwhp.
