Again, thank you though.
Whats your max budget.....I watch this market heavily and see HT come up pretty often. If you are willing to pay $15K should be no problem if your looking to pay $7K then it may take some time but is not completely inconceivable. Last year HT were all I was seeing for sale with probably 8 or 9 confirmed sales under $10K. Guy on here had a gorgeous White non D82 HT that sold for like 7 or 8K.

Anywhot let me know your max and I will start dumping ads your way as I find them.

Edit: Also are you looking for a Bright Red with Black Hardtop or Red Hardtop (i.e. this would be the D82 option code as referenced)

If money is no option this is the best price I have seen on an 97 LT4 SS maybe ever.

https://newhaven.craigslist.org/cto/d/1997-chevrolet-camaro-ss-lt4/6546437575.html

It is a hardtop 6 speed and low mileage with the added kicker of being one of the rarest production models of camaro ever

Too bad you weren't looking a couple years ago. A good local friend of mine was selling a '96 D82 Bright Red HT SS M6 with only 3,500 miles on it. He was the original owner and the car was completely stock down to the original tires.

Just a side note.... IMO, I wouldn't pay $16k for one of these cars with 31k miles. The 3500 mile car I just mentioned above only brought $17k, and that was through a high volume specialty dealer on consignment. And it took some time to get it sold even at that price.

Sounds like your buddy had a gem...there seems to be few with low mileage that people tucked away for whatever reason but I would say out of the 2200ish cars that were made there might be maybe 100 of those left. I would say I have seen at least 500 of them over the years that were either high mileage, ratted out with body kits, in junk yard parted out. This being said the majority of what I see is mid mileage 30 to 80k and usually sell for $7 to $12k. I completely agree that there is absolutely no reason at the moment to pay anything even close to $16k for anything over 10k miles. Plenty show up every year in that 10k price range with decent mileage.

Agreed on all counts. The only one I've ever seen that was nicer than my friend's '96 is the LT4 SS that's owned by former site moderator Xsta Z 28. When I saw his back in 2008, I believe the mileage was still in the low 3-digit range. A true #1 condition example, probably none nicer anywhere in the country.

On a side note, we actually had a new member sign up recently (in 2017 I think) who bought another '96 SS with only ~3500 miles, it was black though. I think he said it came from a collector in FL, and the build number was somewhere in the 900s?

It was #1595, also optioned with leather, 2OTL exhaust and the Torsen differential. Not sure who bought the car, but it was here in Chicago from 1996 until 2015, then sold on consignment by Volo Auto Museum.

What is the attraction, especially paying over $8k for one? Paying $15k seems ludicrous regardless of miles.
