Simalar thing happened to me. I went to shift from 1-2 and the clutch popped to the floor and I couldn't get it to come back out and the car died. I got it to pop back out but it wouldn't go back in. Turned out to be a busted throwout bearing.
If you need any help, let me know, I've replaced everything transmission related on LTx cars.

I'm trying to find the write-up that I used a long time ago.
This one will help for now, it's for a LS1 T56, but a lot of the steps are similar.

I'll try to find one for a LT1 T56.

The t/o bearing is pinned to the pressure plate. It that is the culprit, you should be able to get a new one and replace it without having to replace the clutch. You'll know if its your t/o bearing once you drop your tranny.
