Who's Hiring? Back on topic
Some state experience is "preferred", but not necessary. That should not deter you from applying. For example, given a particular candidate pool, it may be better to get the apple from the tree than the barrel.
I thought of being an x-ray tech years ago, but it took almost 2 years on the waiting list at Mt SAC to get into. Back then, the way around it is to play a sport, then you get preferential registration. Alot of the classes were impacted. Not much room for advancement aside from special certifications.
Nursing is the way to go. You don't have to really be a "nurse" the rest of your life. I know nurses who have went into Sales making in excess of $80k/yr. base + bonus and commission (easily over $100k). Others I know went into training after working in the field for 5 years, a real cush job, making a salary of over $75k.
So... The job hunt begins.
P.S. I also work on my car (simple stuff) and I'm not really afraid to get my hands dirty.
