Cali people need some info I was looking at transferring within my company. There are a few places that came up in California.
My question is what type of area are these places? I'm not loaded and wouldn't get a huge pay bump even though the cost of living would be more.
What would rent be on a 3-4 bedroom place (need garage)?
What is the school (grade school & high school) system like?
Any other information would be greatly appreciated. Just trying to get an idea of what it would be like to live there.
1. Oceanside
2. La Mesa
3. San Louis Obispo
4. Los Angeles (downtown)
5. San Francisco (south)
6. Studio City
Like I said, not wealthy and rent/cost of living is going to be extremely important to me. Also the order above is just a list and not put in any preference of choice.

I can only speak for Oceanside because I live there, it's pretty nice and is almost midway between San Diego and L.A. so there is a lot of stuff to do. Plus there are a few beaches. Rent wise you can get a decent sized 3-4 br house with a garage for probably 1700-2k again depending on where in town. I've seen some shitty ones for 1200, but they are cheap for a reason.

I guess rent would have to be around 18-2200 and definitely don't want to be in a bad part of town. I understand things can happen anywhere, but don't want to have to worry about neighbors borrowing stuff or having the appearance of the neighborhood look crappy.
The wife likes Oceanside, then La Mesa and also been looking at a few places on the east coast (GA, FL). I just want a change, closer contact with the ocean and a place that has plenty to do all year around.
Anymore input is appreciated, once again thanks for the information. I'll be making a trip out to CA in the next few weeks.

I forgot to mention that Vista, Carlsbad, and San Marcos are pretty close to Oceanside and are also decent areas depending on the neighborhood. If your looking at less than 2200 for rent you will definitley find a nice place in any of those cities. I like Oceanside and Carlsbad because the 5 runs right through them so its easy to get to L.A. or San Diego.
