They charge a pretty good amount for the VATS key, that's why. If you get a remote off ebay, they are simple to program yourself, so that's of little concern.
Figuring out what frequency your VATS system is will be your main issue. Go to the dealer and ask for the information for your car. They will give you the key code and the VATS number. You can get these keys from Ebay too as blanks with the right frequency chip. Take that and the code to a locksmith and they can make you a key cheaper than the dealer will. If you can find a locksmith supply store in your area you can get the chipped ignition keys at $7/ea and $.50/ea for the door keys.
I'd be able to do it all for you but im all the way out in Ventura county

Sorry all this locksmith school terminology is getting mixed up in my head. Anyhow, the information will be free. If they try to charge you or dick you around for it tell them to suck a fat one. Its state law that they have to provide that info to you.
