Default 96 vortec questions

My buddy is building/swapping one into a 70 GMC truck. Is it considered a gen II? What would be the best sub-forum to look at? Any problems with swapping it into his truck? Any and all info would be appreciated, thanks

It's a Gen I small block. Simple bolt-in, at least physically. How much of the electronics he intends to keep will determine how much additional effort will be needed.

Cool, much easier and cheaper to find parts. He was afraid of specific heads to a specific intake. All electronics are gonna be gone, going to get a carb and distributor. Thanks for the reply, owe ya a beer bud

Well, if he's using the stock heads, then he'll need to get a Vortec-compatible intake, since an older SBC intake won't work.

I assumed the whole motor was going in as a unit.

He does have the complete engine out of his 96 Tahoe sitting on a stand taking up space in my garage. It was running good when he pulled it out but wants to freshen it up and make a bit more grunt down low.

Any other advice would be awesome (manual 4wd, no smog worries and a weekend warrior type truck)
