Default On my way to Irwindale to get a baseline with my new WS6...

but I didn't even make it to Pomona, just my luck.

Is this a common problem? It looked like the pulley itself was cracked.

Crank dampner? Yes, they are known to fail on LS1/6 cars. C5's have this issues as well. The rubber part deteriorates and the pulley fails. Might as well upgrade to a good under sdrive unit. Btw just google LS1 dampner fail and youll find a few threads especially on Corvette Forum.

Thanks for the info. This one was the power steering pump pulley, but I might take some preventative measures with the crank dampner.

Hard to see the pic on my phone, looked like the dampner. Havent seen a power steering pulley fail but they are known to break because theyre plastic. I would say check that the ps pump didnt freeze up for some reason, causing the belt to maybe spin it off the shaft. Make sure all your pulley line up and dont wobble. Its a pain to remove that pulley sleeve thats left on the shaft. Taking the pump off to work on it should be much easier.

Damn Nate, when did you become an LS expert?? lol, to see that, hopefully you can get that done, like nate said make sure the belt lines up completely when it's replaced and I hope your PS is working well when it's replaced.

those LS1 power steering pulleys are like glass...you so much as tap it wrong and it disintegrates I replaced mine with a steel one. I see them broken all the time on LS1 pullouts.

Thats the one I have...its nice cuz you can get to the pump bolts now...also mine eventually dislodged itself from the power steering pump (spun off) throwing the belt...I put a bolt and washer into the power steering pulley shaft (it's threaded) to lock the pulley and have been good ever since.
