Default Powder coating and other wheel coatings

Be very careful with powder coating or any other coating on wheels that requires heating up the wheel. If you have someone else do it or if you do it yourself, make sure it is being done correctly and NOT taking the wheel material to too high of a temperature for too long or you can destroy the heat treatment and the wheel will become soft and a MAJOR safety issue. This is especially a concern on aluminum alloy wheels because it doesn't take a very high temperature to change an aluminum alloy heat treatment specification.

We have seen wheels sent it to us by customers that have been coated by different companies and the wheel material has become so soft it deforms while the tire is being mounted and pressurized.

The first time I saw it for myself I was very surprised. I had never thought of the fact that some of these coatings might be changing the wheel heat treatment.

Just an FYI since this can be such a safety issue.

i doubt it...i think with the front done i'll be fine. (I'd be too **** to get the back done...i'd want it to go beneath the wing on the lid, AND under the rear wing itself.)
