i think your right, but they are researching if its worth it or not to proceed with setting up smog machine with camera's then if your found to be a gross polluter you get the ticket in the mail with a notice to get smog checked

From a scientific standpoint, I don't see how they could test the air from/around your vehicle as it drives by, and know that it was from you. Think of all the other cars in the vicinity. That must be one highly specialized piece of equipment.

There was a police checkpoint today in Alta Loma (Rancho Cucamonga). They were escorting everybody to one lane and chosing wich cars to dyno (they had an actual dyno). I luckily had a customers car i had to roadtest or i would have been screwed! This was on carnelian just north of Alta Loma high School.

This is stupid... if they're so worried about the global warming to the point of setting smog checking stations on the road (in spite of already having to get smog checks when your car turns 5 and paying a gas guzzler tax at purchase if you fall into that category) then why are they focusing on cars this much versus all the factories that bust out more toxins in one day then you would in a month. I'd hate to see what they're doing in Dallas,TX since they were actually ranked with the most polluted air in the country. Ridiculous!

BigDaddyBry 03-28-2008 04:48 PM

I'm laughing at the logic now that you point it out: what's the smog impact of the vehicles used to transport the cops and smog equipment?

dred500 03-28-2008 07:31 PM

They should smog school / public busses
Only thing I c come out of there backend is black smoke

BigDaddyBry 03-28-2008 08:48 PM

I thought they were natural gas now (well, most of them).

yeah they are still in the middle of retrofitting them, natural gas is deff a lot cleaner and smells better as well.

A) I believe the test is voluntary, but they dont tell you that. Tell them you're late for work and you cant participate.

B) Why are you worried? This is California and you're supposed to have all your smog equipment on the car and functioning, as that's a federal and state law. If you dont, shame on you.
