i dont understand with all of the new technology and materials these days they couldnt keep that thing lighter than 4000 lbs. anyone know what their first gens weighed in at?

it's pretty sad, according to howstuffworks.com the 1970 dodge challenger convertible weight in at 3700 lbs! hahaha this means this car is heavier!

1970 dodge challenger convertible: 3700 lbs
1970 pontiac firebird transam: 3800 lbs
1970 ford mustang: 2800-3200 lbs WOW! mustangs were light back in the day

I totally agree.

On a side note, the two Saleen versions of the 5.7L Challenger are to be street legal, supercharged, and 500 and 700hp.

you know the gt500 lost in a test to the challenger, even tho the mustang was faster, handled better, and stopped better. The challenger won because it was "better sorted" what ever the **** that means, o yeah and it was like 5k cheaper. (motor trend test btw)

wow. i would imagine that would bump up the price quite a bit. definately not worth it to me, but im sure there are those out there 700hp... geez

Yeah, it'll be interesting to see. I wanna know if it'll also be put on a diet, or are they going to add another few hundred pounds and make it 4500lbs.... and 700hp.

yeah maybe they'll get into the 12s with that hp, the car looks good but thats about it, the performance/price ratio is medeocure at best.

good point. saleens always have new body panels all over the place i bet it will add on some weight.
