New 1 Mile Shootout Event In Nevada
Nellis AFB
Las Vegas, NV
September 28, 2008
MKM Racing Promotions will be presenting the High Roller Mile Shootout at Nellis Air Force Base, Nevada on Sunday September 28, 2008. The event will be open to the Public for entries.
It will be held on one of the main runways at Nellis Air Force base in Las Vegas. The Nellis AFB runway is a beautiful 200 feet wide and nearly 11,000 feet long.
The High Roller Mile Shootout is a motorsports competition based on achieving the highest possible trap speed in one mile from a semi-standing start without exceeding the speed limit for their class. Entry is open to 2-wheeled motorcycles and 4-wheeled vehicles that meet the specifications in the rule book. Basically, this resembles an extra-long drag race, except that we only care about the top speed, not elapsed time.
The course will be a straight section of runway exactly one mile in length. One vehicle at a time will be on the course. Electronic Timing based on laser beams will be used. The “speed trap” used to measure speed will consist of the last 132 feet of the one-mile course. Elapsed Time will not be measured, only Top Speed. There is an approximately 0.9 mile stopping area after the speed trap, plus some extra runoff.
Street cars will be able to run up to 170 mph using factory equipment and a helmet, similar to the MKM Touring division. Having roll bars/harnesses (MKM Grand Sport or similar) and a Nomex driving suit allows you to go up to 190 mph. Race cars going for faster than 190 mph will be in a different group requiring more safety equipment.
For cars, the tire requirement starts at an “H” rating and goes up with the speed class. For motorcycles, the requirement starts at a “V” rating. Tires rated "W" or better are recommended, and DOT Drag radials will be allowed. Passengers are not allowed.
There will be a “Pure Street” division for completely stock, unmodified, licensed and insured cars, with only cosmetic changes allowed. In this division, the tires can be whatever the manufacturer put on the car or equivalent.
IMPORTANT NOTICE
An official MKM Racing Promotions application for entry must be completed, signed, and legible, with entry fee enclosed, paid in full, and received at MKM’s office (not just postmarked) no later than midnight 10 days prior to the event. Applications not meeting this deadline, but arriving before the Monday preceding the event, may be accepted but will be assessed an additional $20 late fee.
Due to base security requirements at Nellis AFB, applications must list ALL people (including crew, family, children, guests, etc.) that will be entering the base. Unfortunately, because of this requirement, late or walk-in entries will not be possible unless the entrant already has his/her own clearance to enter the base. We reserve the right to reject or refuse any entry.
The confirmed date is September 28, 2008. There will be other car activities there that weekend as well, including a SCCA Autocross on the BIGGEST piece of asphalt you have ever seen (the last Autocross course there was 1.3 Miles long!) and, if you are so inclined, the Las Vegas Drifters Club will be competing.
