Looks slow.

Is this 3D work hard to learn? Or does it just involve a program.

ZexGX Aug 30, 2008 12:55 AM

Usually it's a lot of hard work to learn a 3D/CAD program... :D

scotthd Aug 30, 2008 12:57 AM

how long did that take to do up

The program I use is called "3D Studio Max" it's working it's way to be the top program used in visual effects work... is it hard? you decide... here's a screenshot of it ;)

yea... it takes a lot of practice and memorization... this is my 3rd year using this program... and still haven't even came close to scratching the full potential of the power this program has...

Yeah.. I used it for almost 3 years (I think? versions 6 through 9) and barely scratched the surface of what it can do. Max is incredibly intricate and very powerful. When I realized that sitting for 8+ hours a day working on a 3d model wasn't my cup o' tea, I drifted away from it... Here's the last thing I was working on before I quit (modified Warthog for Halo)

mmm. rice. When put ingame with the shaders, the body color became very close to SOM. :D

Damn Zex... that's pretty cool! I like the texturing you got on it... :D

Max 8 is the newest one out now as far as I know... i hate when they keep coming out with new versions, then you gotta relearn everything

here's an army tank I did back in the day when I took my first class in it...

I used it for a bit in computer animation class is high school. There was one guy that was wicked good with it, made an evo and some other import stuff on it that looked fucking sick! Way close to real life. Me on the other hand I stuck to flash animation and photoshop haha. I did make a fruit bowl for my final project sitting on a table in an empty room :D

ZexGX Aug 30, 2008 01:32 AM

Nice... Way better than anything I could do (never took a class). Keep up the good work, dude. :)

P.S. Max versions I know of since version 8:
9, 2008, 2009 (this is the most current one, I believe). We have the latest 3 versions of Max where I work, but the top-notch render guys use Vray and Max 9 on XP64 instead of the latest and greatest. Pretty funny...

www.turbosquid.com is a great resource for some 3d models already made... some are free, but the really nice ones usually cost money...

It's also a bummer to hear they are teaching this stuff in high school now... seeing as I have a 100k student loan that I get to pay off after I graduate college :bang:
