Is this a good buy--00 Z28 99k miles $7k?
Buddy of mine runs a small used car lot. Car is a 2000 black z28, m6, leather interior, factory hurst shifter. Car has damage on the right quarter panel that would require some mild bodywork. I work at a body shop, so that's not an issue.
The car currently does not run, cranks, but no has no fuel pressure at the schrader valve, so it will need a new fuel pump which he stated he is planning on replacing in a few months. The car is currently sitting outside and the battery is probably no good as well. It also has 98 corvette wagon wheels on it with some used tires, so those would have to be changed as well. Has some catback exhaust on it as well, no other mods. He just replaced both knock sensors as they got ruined when he washed the engine.
I offered him 5800-6000 for it. I would be using this car as a DD to go 44 miles a day to work. My current DD is a 01 monte carlo ss with 93k miles on it that needs a upper/lower intake mani gasket change as it is leaking oil, new electric fans/t-stat, and some other general maintenance. My monte gets about 24-26 mpgs and is a comfortable car.
I would have to sell the monte carlo to be able to buy this, which I would likely get 4800-5000 for as the paint isnt so hot. Should I just hang on to my current beater, or get this z28? I already have a fast car for the weekends (my gto) so modding to the z28 would be non existent to very minimal.

well the car isn't running and they want $7k for it? find something else, who knows what else is wrong since it can't even turn over.
I've seen cars with 100+ miles and their stock fuel pump is in perfect working order, if there fuel pump is jacked under 100k miles that rigth there throws a red flag for me.
for comparison purposes, i bought my 98 ss for 10k at a dealership, and it only had 22k miles on it

I paid $5250 for mine with 76k miles on it. It, like this one, needed body work on the quarter behind the door and needed brakes and tires and the cats were bad. Not really a big deal but stuff like that adds up. I would talk him down unless he will get it running right and then MAYBE pay $6k.

Thanks for the advice guys. I rode in the car prior to the fuel pump dying and it ran just fine, no weird noises or issues that I could tell. Its also a single owner car, he has only put a few hundred miles on it since he bought it.
He does intend to change the fuel pump prior to selling it as well.
The last thing I want is to buy the car and have to dump 2-3k into it in general parts, wheels/tires, etc. If that's the case, I could fix everything on my monte carlo and still drive it. I just want a daily driver that is more exciting.
