Will 285's fit a 9.5" wheel?
Im just curious if this size would be safer than my current set up.(295's) Some ppl have really gotten bitched at for running this combo because it is terribly unsafe. So should I spend the extra money and go one step smaller in case my tires blow up or fall apart while I drive? thanks for the advice.

a 285 is the max that should go on a 9.5 wheel for saftey reasons and also looks.
a wide tire on a 2 narrow wheel will look bulged out.
read the sticky there is a lot of info in there.

The 275/35ZR18 is a PERFECT tire for a 18" x 9.5" wheel. A 285/35ZR18 works fine as well, and is the widest recommended tire for a 9.5" wide wheel.
I am assuming from your signature that your C5 wheels are 18" x 9.5"

I have a 275 tire on a 9.5 inch rim. It is a perfect fit so it will be a bit over the edge of the rim for a 285. It is only 10mm wider than the the 275.
The only thing that I would check is that the tire buldging will not rub on the sterring knuckle at the top. My 275 are close.

Go for it!
My tire shop in Detroit would have put them on for me (No problems they said - "We've done this hundreds of times - Zero Issues."), but they did not have them in stock, so I went with the 275.

275 or 285 you'll be fine...i wouldnt go wider but between those two tires i think its more about preference of look (tho it wont be too noticeable) Brands differ as well (GS-D3s run wide, for example)

Id be curious to know a lil bit more. The wheels have a +38mm Offset front and rear so im a lil hessitant on 285/35's just simply due to clearence. I am afraid that they may possibly rub somewhere on the car. I know that if I do run 275/35s I should be fine for clearence, but I just want that lil bit of extra sidewall and width.
Any thought's? Can I throw on some 285's on my +38mm's?

I have 285 Pirelli's on my 9.5" rims right now, they're wearing perfectly, and they fit very well. No bulging really. I would replace them with 285's, but I don't want to pay that much for tires.

The thing is, 285, especially in 18" is not a very common size among various brands. Try and find the same tire in a 275 and a 285 so you can run wider in the back and not run mismatch tires. Especially in a quality tire that looks good and you don't have to spend a fortune on.
I went with 275/35 on my Zo6's, BFG KDW's but the drag radial in the rear. The tires have similar sidewalls, look good, and for a drag radial the tread patterns look good together. The DR is also beefier and "looks" wider giving an aggressive stance, but it still fits the wheel.

These pics will give you an idea. I'm really happy about the looks and performance I get, it wasn't the cheapest route to go, but it gives me what I want.
