Default Questions about Nitto 555's

Okay guys... I searched and didn't find much information about these tires so this is why i'm posting.

I'm ready to purchase some new tires for my 02 SS M6. I went to a local dealer today and he told me he could get me a set of Nitto 555's for $592.00 ... Since that is somewhat cheaper than I am seeing on the net and he can have them to me next day.. I figured it was a pretty good deal.

Anyhow, my question is.. what is your opinion about these tires? This car is a daily driver.. but not so many miles.. (anywhere around 40-100 miles a week w/ exceptions) When I do drive the car, I drive quite spiritedly with a few WOT passes ever other weekend or so. Also, These tires are right in my price range, I could give a little more.. but not so much. So, do you guys think these tires will fit the bill?

If so, my car currently has the stock 10 spoke SS wheels (17x9.5).. should I just order the tires in the 275/40 size or should I look into a 285 or 295? My reason for asking is from what I hear, these tires run considerably smaller.

Also, any comments, questions, or reccomendations would be greatly appreciated.

I believe I have covered everything I need to know about them but if there is anything else I might be forgetting or not know about.. please let me know.

I appoligize about the long post.

Thanks a million guys.

I had a couple sets of them. They were alright for me. I know alot of guys around here use them, but last time I needed tires they only had Falkens instock so I switched to them. The nitto's hooked pretty well, but I burned through the rubber pretty quick...but that depends on how you drive.

I guess I'm a very spirited driver then, I have a few WOT runs everyday I have an 80 mile round trip commute to work so I have to do something to enjoy it lol.

I ordered some used Nittos with stock wheels the other day. I have no idea how they hook though, guess I'll see in a couple days.

The first set were when I first got the car in high school...so needless to say I went through them pretty quick (maybe 15,000 miles). The last set I had, I probably had them for around the same amount of miles before one tire blew out (due to a nail) and they did not have any nittos in stock (switched the the Falkens). I kept the remaining 3 nittos and I would say its about 25-30% thread left.

From what i've saw of them and all of the praise these tires have recieved.. I believe i'm going to give them a try. My driving has became much calmer due to the bad weather and such but I can guaruantee warm weather plus new tread.. is going to be a really fun time. =)

One more question though.. what size would you guys order? I heard these tires run small but i'm not really sure as I don't have any personal experience... 275/40 or 285/40 ?

Where are you guys getting these killer deals? The cheapest I could find the Nitto's were like 800 bucks.

I didn't know that.. I thought they were a 9.5 inch.. I guess I got confused with my truck wheels being a 9.5 inch and all.. I guess there is some truth to the saying you learn something every day =)

I run 315/35/17 Drag radials in the rear and 275/40/17 555 on the front.

The front tires last a long time, I havent gone through a set yet. The rears last about 10-13k miles. I dont get to the track much so thats with few burnouts.

They grip great, even in the rain(within reason). I used to pay $338 for the rears shipped to my door, they have since raised the prices to $368 shipped which still isnt too bad. I drive my car about 12k miles a year so I buy a new pair of rear every year.

If you are looking for a good dragstrip tire I would not reccomend them though, MTs are an awesome track tire but you get far less life out of them. Buy a cheap set of stock wheels and get a pair of MTs for the track and be done with it.
