Default Question about fittament

Hey I'm new here and I'm picking up a 98 firebird from a friend, and I need some help on whether or not these tires will be okay on these rims...I'm only asking because TireRack "recommends" to put a different sized tire on these rims.

It's these tires:

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....tnum=16SR6SP60

on these rims:

http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/Wheel...All&sort=Brand

Will they pair up okay?

...Sorry for the noobish questions, I just need tires and rims before I buy my car.

Note...this is a DD.

Or would I be better off with these:

http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....omCompare1=yes

on those same rims.

That's the stock size for a 98 firebird, no?

The link for the tires you gave are for 215's. I think stock for firebirds are 245 at least thats what they are for trans am's

Exactly, that's what they are for TA's...Firebird, non firehawk/ta/formula, is 215/60r16. This is just for a v6 firebird, as a daily (for now)...

My guess would be you would need at least a 225 or 235 to fit and look ok. 215 seems a little skinny to me. Stock wheels are 16x8. Mine were anyway.

I thought they were 16x7.5 but I could be wrong.

They also came with a 235/55(I think)r16 option as well.

And once again, I'm new so I could be TOTALLY wrong about all of this...I'm just trying to find the best deal without going absolutly cheap...considering I'm paying less than the rims+tire price for the car.

The specs say those tires will fit a 6 inch rim to a 7.5 inch rim.

And yes you would be better off with the second tire choice you posted.

Std Firebird tire size was 235/55/16
Trans Am/Formula was 245/50/16
Both on a 16x8 rim.

A 215 tire on a 7.5 in wide rim is going to have the "euro" look where the tire actually stretches out to meet the lip of the wheel.

I would run the 245/50/16 tire that tire rack recommends for that wheel.

And those Dunlop SP60 tires are not going to perform like you want them. That tire is designed to be used on minivans.

If you're trying to find something cheap but don't want to sacrifice a lot of performance, I'd take a look at the General Exclaim UHP. It's in the same price range as those Kumho's but it's going to grip better.
