Prostars cracking at every spoke

This is quite scary, my rear 15x10 prostars.

Every single spoke looks like that, on both sides.

Anyone else ever have this issue?

When did you install these? Did you buy then new or used? Maybe I can help?

A problem can occur on these wheels if the proper torque is overlooked when installing them. Or if they have been used on an application that they are not designed for. Also, using the correct washer and lugnut is crucial. They carry a 1200 lbs load rating per wheel. Do you know how they were used before you bought them?

They were used on another F-body. These cracks just appeared after 2+years of owning them. Always torqued to spec and the correct shanks/washers were used.

The older version of these wheels had a mfg date stamped around the bolt circle.
Can you supply pictures of the front of the wheel? I would be interested in seeing these.
I have seen this happen on Chevy trucks (5x5 Bolt Circle 1/2 ton) were they overload the wheels but it is usually on the front wheels only. Due to side load force from cornering and hard driving, but rears have hardly any side load at all.

I will take some more pictures when I get home, and I agree, it's not like I drift the car with drag radials on it.

Or how about running spacers like most people due?

Never ran spacers..

Spacers do not usually create problems with the wheel itself. The problems with spacers is using correct lugs and maintaining torque specs. The lug holes would be compromised in most of these situations.
Post your new pictures tomorrow and I will try to help more.

What no drifting on Pizza cutters? LOL, J/K dude. Sux to see that happen-but its a good thing you caught it before it got real ugly. Its kinda rare to see one of these wheels break.

FYI . . . It's the REAR wheels . . . . not the fronts . . .

Sucks to see that happen, but I doubt drag racing wheels are designed to last forever . . .

I would hope so, I mean when I was racing on these rims, I was just bolt-ons cutting 1.7 shorts, nothing ridiculous by any means. Who knows might just be a defect. What scares me the most is one of these wheels falling apart through the traps.

Damn thats not good man! I would definitely send some pics to Weld.

streetassasin 10-14-2009 01:24 PM

The same thing happened to one of the fronts wheels on my old third gen a few years ago

That is my feeling too. God knows how old these rims out, how long they have been used, the manner they were used before purchase by OP, also they could have had a bad line during that time. who knows
