Default putting in wheel studs and spacers. have a few q's first

I have some oem c5z06's and am going to install some spacers and studs so that i can get them to fit better in the rear in the wheel well. I have a few questions.

1. Will i need to pull the axles to successfully install the new wheel studs?
2. Will I need to buy new lug nuts after I put the new studs in even though I'm installing a spacer?
3. If you have or have know which spacer i should get please tell me. I'm torn between 1/4 and 7/16 spacers. I saw a picture of a camaro lowered with the same wheels with 7/16 spacers and like the stance.

idk about spacers. but you do NOT have to pull the exles to install the new studs just take off the brakes and rotors and use a hammer to beat the old studs out. then you put the new studs in by using a nut that fits over the new stud loosely and then thread on the lugnut and use a impact gun to pull it all the way through. its quite easy acctually.

okay. i was worried that since they were longer they wouldnt not be able to be angled into the hub properly.

if you have traction control, remove the wheel speed sensor and remove and install the studs through the hole for the sensor. if you dont have traction control you may have to pull the axles depending on how long they are

okay. so 7/16 is what will give the z06 wheel the flush look with the fender and the 1/4 is a tad less? thats what im understand from you post lol.

I am going to subscribe to this thread...

The reason is bc I am going to be buying some OE C6 wheels 18x10.5 in the back and those have a +56mm offset and I think I need to run a spacer? 1/4"? And if you run a spacer you want to run longer studs to?

Also where do you get longer, good quality studs from?

every thread i searched said that it would be a good idea to get better studs. I ordered my studs from ws6store.com because i just ordered a slp grill and figured id save on shipping. same studs they have at jegs and were the same price. they were part # 100-7708. the reason you want better studs is because 1. you will compromise the strength by making the distance between the wheel and the hub larger with the spacer and 2. with a spacer there will be less thread to screw the lug nut onto.

well i had to notch my brake caliper bracket to get the longer studs in. I just installed them about 5 minutes ago. I installed 3.25 ARP studs. I can take a picture for you as well as give you the ARP length if this is the size you need. These will work with factory acorn style. If you will be using closed end then you need to measure them out and make sure that you dont need the 2.5 inch instead.

When i installed my ARP studs (100-7708) i pulled the axles, its actually VERY easy to do.. And besides, it gives you a chance to check out the rear, and change the fluid while your there.

Remove brakes/rotors
Pop off cover
Remove bolt holding paddle, and pull it out.
push axles in, and take out c clips
pull out axles, and replace studs..

Then reverse the order.

Yup, i ran the 2.5s, because i was running widened WS.6 wheels, with a 1" adapter, and didnt want to cut the studs.. Suprisingly enough, the 2.5s fit inside the back of the wheel, so it was perfect.

yeah i ordered the 2.5"s. But if tally transam is correct i shouldnt need to remove the axles and just run the studs through the traction control sensor hole.

That makes sense. Im running Greg Welds up front and will be running Race Star Industries in there rear (as soon as they get here next week). These pretty much already ahve a built in spacer not to mention the shank lug nuts.

If it doesnt work out for you here is another option before you go to pulling the axels:
Make a notch like so (i used a grinder and tiger disk)

The slide out the old ones and in with the new ones:

alright, already ordered the arp studs.

i was wondering if Mr. Gasket 2372 from summits site is the correct spacer for the rear. i wanted the 7/16th, but im wondering if these spacers are the correct bolt pattern. im pretty sure they are, but i was just double checking before i ordered.
