Slicks vs ET Streets
Iv been having trouble geting my 6 speed car to hook up. Doing some shock/spring changes this winter and was going to change wheel and tire selection.
Right now I have been on a 315/35/17 and a 275/40/17 Mickey T Drag Radail. Not happy with those results and was told to go to a 15in wheel with a bigger tire.
So Now Im thinking, Should I put a pure ET Slick, Hooser Slick VS an ET Street, stickyer than a Drag Radail, and its not bias ply.
I think I need a slick the way I want to launch, Iv heard if you run a bias ply tire in the rear and a regular radial (street tire) its not a good combo. Under or over steer, takin chances on puting it in the wall. I was really trying to save some money and not buying a full set of wheels, but if I have to I will I guess.
Basicly I want thoughts on ET Streets and something similar thats not a biasply tire and thoughts on MT Slicks and Hooser Slicks. And how they work with radials up front or should I get some skinnies and be done.. My cars not a race car I just want it to hook when I do go play..

my experience from a 26x10.50 ET STreet to a 26x10 ET Drag was 1.6 to 1.44 60' at the strip, everything else the same.
If you're going to drive them on the streets and play, you don't have a choice but to use ET STreets or Hoosier QTPs. The only way you'll get a 6 speed car to hook is on a wrinkle wall tire...and we've done it for years w/ a radial up front. Just don't try to carve corners with that combo. Make sure to air those rears up when casually driving or you'll skate all over the place.
if it were a auto, id go MT or Hoosier DR all day long, even in 17s. 6 speed...those DRs are good on the street but only 15s w/ slicks/wrinkle walls will do at the strip.

Sounds good. IV got the Street lites in 17s and want a 15 to match. I wont drive it on the street with the slicks if tahts teh way I go..I dont drive the car that much anyway..

Is there anything wrong using the et drag on a auto car instead of the dr's?

I have run both the M/T ET Street Slicks and M/T ET Radials with my Auto. My best 60' with the slicks was a 1.65 and when I switched to the radials I cut consistent 1.56's. So for my Auto the DR was infact better because the stiffer sidewall however with a 6-speed it's the exact opposite.
With the slicks out back and my stock 275's upfront the car oversteered and swayed a bit going down the road but you get used to it. We now run those slicks on our GTO with stock 245's upfront and you hardly even know you have a bias-ply out back, just take it easy on the turns.

The shocks are stock for now. I think for xmas I got some QA1s but not sure yet. Best 60 ft is a 1.9 on a 315/35/17...not to happy most is 2.0 2.1s..but I dont really slip the clutch that much I like to leave harder...

you only have 424 rwhp and are having traction issues with a 315/35/17 mickey thompson drag radial? sounds like something else is the issue there, what suspension mods do you have? You should be able to cut something A LOT faster than a 1.9 60' with that tire/much rwhp.
For street driving, I would not mix a radial tires up front with a bias ply tire (Hoosier Quick-Time Pros, M/T ET Streets, etc) out back. Well atleast not without a skinny up front. If you have a decent sized piece of rubber up front, it will "fight" the bias ply in the back, so to speak. Had this problem plenty of times running my Quick Time Pros in the rear, with 275/40/17 street tires in the front. It gets pretty hairy (and I, for one, am not "faint of heart" of what is streetable"). If you are just going to the track, you could get away with it, but for regular street use, no. Running a radial skinny up front is not near as bad, and I drive around plenty on the street like that.
If you are convinced on not thinking it is something else in your suspension (which I do believe it is), and just want to throw different meat on there, I would suggest either
A)Getting the Hoosier Drag Radial. They have a bigger contact patch than the mickey thompson drag radials, and are made of a softer compound.
B)Run a bias ply quick time pro (in the size you require) with a skinny radial up in front. I am partial to QTP's myself. I have tried them and the ET Drags and ET Streets (bias ply version), and the Quick Time Pro's have given me the best results. and it isn't even a full out slick, as compared to the ET drags.

Im hoping my g/f got me the shocks but idk..the rear end Is ganna be orderd soon!

a VERY budget oriented drag shock/spring setup is the following:
v-6 spring/shocks up front (the springs from a 3.4 v6 would be best, as they have the least spring rate)
lakewood 50/50 shocks in the rear.... or comp. engineering 3 way adjustables in the rear, with factory springs.
the lakewoods are nice... i think i paid like $70 for both of mine brand new. they are of course not as nice as the QA1's. but if you don't know how to adjust shock and just want something that's better that you don't have to mess with, it's an excellent choice
the comp engineering 3 way adjustables are very nice... most (that have tried both) actually prefer these over the QA1's. only problem is that you have to remove the shocks to adjust them.
with the v6/lakewood setup i have cut 1.5x 60's in my 6 speed cam only (224 cam) 3500 raceweight car.

Damn 1.5s thats good. If I could get a 1.6 or 1.7 I know the thing would go 11.7s maybe even 60s. But Its not a race car..I could care less what it runs really but it would be sweet to see 11s cam only!
