DR's on all 4 corners...

I now this might be a dumb question, but I'm not sure about it so Im gunna ask it

would there be any issues with running DR's on all 4 rims, Im getting new tires for the rear (Nitto 555r's) and I want all 4 tire brands to match, would it be ok to get some for the front too? or would it be dangerous for some reason?

momartin22 Jan 7, 2010 08:17 PM

just get the 555's up front? worried about rotating them i guess?

JeaneZ28 Jan 7, 2010 08:18 PM

Don't do that, just get the regular 555's up front.

NAVY99B4C Jan 7, 2010 08:19 PM

Yes there isnt any reason you cant. But...

They make a nitto555 performance street tire. Its just not a "DR". Same brand and tire basically just a little more of a street tire. Get more mileage and better wet handling which you want FOR SURE if you ever get caught in the rain. I have run the 555s front and the 555r out back and it was a really good setup.

IMO i wouldnt feel safe doing it. but to each there own.

That is a good question?^^ why do you want to? the dr's will wear out pretty quick on the street. Or were you just saying you want all nittos or the EXACT same tire?

CH@Dbee Jan 7, 2010 08:27 PM

i dont think it would be dangerous, just kinda of stoopid lol its a waste of money.

No real benefit to doing it on a DD, BUT it will much improve hard braking and cornering in dry/warm weather. Nitto makes a tire that is the same compound as their 555R (it's called the 555RII) which is their auto-x tire. You could run those on the front as they have a stiffer sidewall and won't 'crease' as much or roll in hard braking/turning.

Would I do it? No, but if you want, there is some benefit. None in the rain though.

I have the 555R drag radials on the back and the 555RII's up front but mine hardly ever comes out of the garage....they ride and handle fine tho. I wanted to have the same design tire all the way around myself. I think it looks awkward with one type of tire on the back and another on the front but thats just my opinion.

I concur. I'm thinking about putting some Mickey Thompson 345/35-18s on the back of my car and some 305/35-18s on the front, I'm hoping it works out.

:werd:

I've ran the 555R drag radial out back and the 555 street tire up front and it's a good combo. The tread design is the same, the blocks are just bigger on the DR and the tread depth is a LOT less. You'd prolly go through 2-3 sets of DRs before the front 555s are worn out.

So at the drag strip would you run slicks on all four corners?

I think Nittos might be okay, but the MT's are way to squishy, but I'm on 17s

You plan on fitting a 305 35 18 up front?

may i ask how?

Who said my car is a strip only car! :D My car isn't a DD, think of it more as a Sunday Pro-Touring car.

305's up front aren't that crazy, many road race guys run 315s up front. I did a quick search and came up with TXAgZ28's car, here's a pic of his 315 fronts.

You need a 50mm offset with 5/16" spacers and longer ARP wheel studs. I'm not sure what exactly it will take to run my 305s up front but I'm sure it won't take much.

MasterTomos Jan 10, 2010 04:40 PM

thanks for all yur input guys, I looked around more and found those 555's for up front.

The reason I want all 4 tires to be the same brand is just cuz Im anal about it and it bothers me! haha im sure some can relate

I'm gunna do the 555r's in the back and 555's up front.

as far as rotating, I have 315's on back with a 17x11 in back, and 17x9.5 275's up front so that prolly wouldn't be a good idea! lol

Ill more than likely do the regular 555's up front, thanks guys!

Nascars run 4 slicks tho...why can't i? lmao jk

outkast6991 Jan 10, 2010 05:19 PM

i ran the 555r's all around for about a week. handling was incredible, driving it was horrible. thing pulled so hard on uneven pavement driving the a4 became a 2 handed deal. it just plain sucked

lmao sounds good man, sounds like 275/40/17 Nitto 555's up front, and 315/35/17's nitto 555r's out back is the answer.

thanks a lot guys

I've logged over 50K miles on the street with 315 555R1, 315 NT05, and 275 555R2's in the front. My preference is 315 R1's. The NT05 handle a little bit better in water, but not worth the reduction in dry traction. I would steer clear (get it hahah) of the street "extreme" 555. I am interested in the NT01's but they might have too much sidewall for the street. The new NT05R might be too soft since they are advertising ZERO wear.

The R2's provide better feedback but not better grip than R1's. Probably the extra width of 315 made a difference.

The front alignment camber caster toe will play a significant role in your cars tracking over uneven surface. Camber more than -1.5 degrees and it will become fatiguing. Also wears out the fronts pretty quick.

The R1s are very good "street tires," but with limited mileage.
