Impressed with Nitto Nt-555's

I put a pair of nitto nt-555's on my car yesterday in the rear, and I have to say they are very good street tires. I have not had them in the rain yet, but it is raining here so I will know today how they perform at 65 to 70 in the rain. I was messing around with a buddy at a stop light last night, and we did a dig. The car never hooked up with Sumitomo 315s in the rear, it would spin all the way through first from a 3 grand launch, and finally catch in 2nd, on the street and track. Last night when I launched it on the new tires, it launched good, bogged a little, pulled out and spun the tires a little, then caught well before 1st was over.

I really like these tires, gotta get the fronts next, and so far I would recommend them to anybody. I got em for a good deal online if anybody is interested in where I got them, pm me.

I had some on my old '03 Cobra when it was stock. Hooked great on the street until I put a bigger blower on then I would blow them off like crazy. I think they are a great tire for a sub 400whp car.

Are these the street nitto's? If so I'm definitely interested. I hate my sumitomo's! Ha, as with everyone else. One thing I learned last night is they are great with going straight nut apparently the don't hold as well in conering.

We have the 555s in 315/35-17 on my wifes car, and they work pretty damn well. They probably wouldnt hook if we tried to launch it (392rwhp) but all around driving they are pretty decent.. And they are about an inch wider than nittos DRs.

Where did you get them from? I'm looking at them for the ta with the ws6 wheels. I left the paper in the car but can get them for I believe $140 mounted and balanced. May have been $150. Heck I can't remember. Though I'm doing all 4. Pm if you don't mind to share. Thanks.

Phew that sounds expensive for a full mount and balance!

Yes they are the street tires, I think with more power they wouldn't hook well, but a decent launch in my car from a light they did good. My car made 346/347 on the dyno about a year and a half ago. I paid $171.94 shipped to my door for one 315/35/17, everywhere else I found them for over 200 before shipping. Found the other one on another forum brand new for $75. The 275s are about $125 each though.

Drove about 75 miles last night in some hard rain, car did real well. I can't wait to get these tires on the front of my car also.

Was that a smart comment or what? As I have found $139 free shipping the cheapest and it is $10 bux's to take the old tires off and mount and balance the new ones a piece.

Sorry if I understood you wrong.

Ok where he got them 275-40-17's are $129 shipped to my zip 26836. I found them the other cheap place was ebay which was $139. So not to bad. Have to see what my local place said.

Discount will also price match, but then you have to pay sales tax.

Good to know! Just got a set of these put on my car on Sat, but it's been wet all weekend so I haven't really had a chance to try them out. They look like they put down so much more rubber to the road than the all seasons that were on there before, I'm hoping that they hook really well. I'm going to the track sat, so I'll find out how they work under those conditions.

sscamaroburn02 Apr 20, 2010 08:21 AM

yeah let us know how they perform at the track

thanks for the info as I am looking for new tires to

BAD-LSX-7 Apr 22, 2010 03:51 PM

i have had these and the 555r's both are good tires..

StuntmanMike Apr 23, 2010 05:22 PM

I was able to mess with them a little on the street today. They hook up pretty good!

I could get a chirp out of them if I stomped on it real hard, but just a little less and it just hooks and takes off!

With the all seasons I had on it before, a quick half throttle jab could break them loose from a stop. Not the Nittos!

They also seem to ride a bit smoother than the Michellens I had on it, I'm happy about that too. Steering rsponse seems better too, but then again I've been driving my Jeep with 15" wheels and 31" tall tires all week, so it's hard to tell.

Good thing, I'm getting a full set soon by Fedex; 245 40 18 and 285 35 18...sweet!

StuntmanMike Apr 25, 2010 02:36 PM

Went to the track yesterday.... I LOVE these tires! I couldn't be happier with them.

They were smooth and quiet on the highway, the track is 120 miles each way.

At the track, I was amazed by them. They just HOOKED everytime! The first run I left off idle, and they hooked right up. Subsequent runs I'd leave off the brake with increasing rpms, I got up to about 1600rpm, and they'd just hook right up, with maybe just a little chirp if that. With he all seasons I was running, even leaving off idle I'd have to feather the gas, or they'd go up in smoke. Forget about leaving off the brake, I'd just smoke them through 2nd gear.

And that's at street pressure with no burnout, I drive around the box. They actually helped me get a new personal best, and then my next run I set another new best! Best run was 13.61 @ 104mph. My 60' times were all in the 2.1 range, btw.

Now granted, I have an A4 with 2.73's, with minimal engine mods, so I'm not at the power level that alot of ou guys are. But for my setup, these things work PERFECTLY. I was second guessing myself, thinking I should have gotten the R's for the back, but turns out I don't even need them.

I'm 100% happy with these, I'm really glad I went with them.
