Pulled the trigger on some Nitto NT555's

Got them from Discount Tire Direct, I think the $40 rebate they are offering through the end of today helped me make the decision. I've been looking for a couple weeks now to replace some worn out 275 KDW's up front and some craptastic 315 Sumi's out back.

After the $40 rebate I'll have landed these in the above mentioned sizes for $624 shipped. Hopefully they don't run crazy narrow like the 555r's.

Was looking at a set myself, just cant make up my mind on if these would be better then the yokohoma s. drive or the bf goodrich g-force sport., with the nitto the cheapest and the g-force 40 dollars more. car sees rain so wet traction is wanted. any thoughts anyone?

I Just bought a couple of Nitto 555Rs for my new 17x11 ZR1s. I couldn't be more impressed with how they ride so far, drove them in rain for the first time a couple days ago and was driving about 60 mph with no issues at all.

The regular nt555's don't run narrow at all like the nt555R. I have both on my car, it looks pretty goofy when your front tires are wider than your rears :emb: The nt555 do great and have pretty decent traction for a street tire :thumb:

I'm glad you chimed in! When I picked up the Sumi's I had 275's on the front and they didn't set the bead where I thought they should have. I had the lip of the rim stick out passed the sidewall of the tire. So I yanked those back off, sold them and put the best looking pair of my previously purchased KDW's back on. Looking forward to seeing these Nittos now.

Be sure to post some pics of them mounted up. I'm going to be getting a set in a month and want to see how wide they actually are

No problem, I called in and talked to Brad and he was a great help. Professional, friendly, and informative!

I love my 555's. They are noticably wider than the Sumi 315's. The only downside is that they are a little louder too, but you will get used to it.

Just what I like to hear! The Sumi's didn't really have a stretched look, but they didn't sit on the wheels at all like what the BFG's did...so I'm definitely looking forward to seeing these things. UPS tracking has them here by the end of the day Weds.

ECU_Pirate Mar 2, 2011 08:11 PM

The UPS man dropped these off today, made a comment about them looking like steam rollers. Haha.

First impression is that the tread looks really nice, very pleasing to the eye. They also appear quite a bit larger in width than what I remember the sumitomos being when I got those a year. Tires are being mounted/balance tomorrow and I'll have pictures up by Sunday early afternoon. Pretty busy next few days but I won't leave you hanging for too long.

i have the same tires in 275/315. got them in early November. have yet to get any real street miles on them tho :( . . havent heard anything bad about them

StuntmanMike Mar 2, 2011 10:12 PM

I love my 555's. My car is a DD 3 seasons, and I have no problems with them in the wet. Obviously don't floor it from a stop, but they grip well when driven intellignetly, and hydroplaining has never been an issue, even with the 275 width.

They hook really well at the track too. With my 273's I can just floor it off the line and it just dead hooks.

BlueBird346 Mar 2, 2011 11:08 PM

Yea just use common sense in the rain, and theyre just like any other tires.

X2 for the steamroller comment, thats what i always refer to them as to my friends haha.

Not the best picture but here are my Nitto 555's. Dont run narrow at at all. These are at the end of the line though. They have 60K miles on them.

Damn, like posted above these are a good amount wider than the Sumi's. The side wall sits flush with the fender where as the Sumi's were still tucked a little.

I'll put it this way, I did the BFH mod a little to the inner fender wells with the Sumi's. Well the hammer had to come back out and was used much more extensively on top of what had already been done. Very happy and they look incredible. I'll get some pictures up before in the next day or two.

Thats exactly what I was hoping to hear, well not the bashing your car took, but the fact that they are wider than the sumis

For me its between the 555s and the Kuhmo XS tires, but I don't know if I want something with a really soft compound that will get flat spots from sitting

ECU_Pirate Mar 3, 2011 01:39 PM

Some junk cell phone pictures are all I have to hold you guys over until I have time to grab the camera in the next few days.

Nice^^^

Between work and rain I've not gotten much of a chance to take any decent pictures. Sadly this is the best this far, but you can see there is a pretty nice sized contact patch!
