Question what is this, and how can I get rid of it?

These spots just showed up on my wheels over time.. The car is daily driven so I guess its gonna happen, just wondering if it can be cleaned up? I haven't tried anything really abrasive because these are Chrome and I don't want to do any damage. Any suggestions? thanks.

It's called pitting, is it only on the inner barrel?

well mostly. there's a little bit that shows up on the side of the spoke, but 90% is on the barrel.. and for some reason its mostly on the driver front wheel. The other 3 barely have any.

yup looks like pitting from lack of maintanence and road grime. its already in the metal of the rim. no way to reverse (fix) the pitting. pitting is common on chrome especially on cheaper lower quality chrome unless cleaned and polished on a normal basis. If the pitting is on the inner barrel, i would sand down and paint it black or silver. or spend some money and have it rechromed. but you can probably buy a new set of rims for the price of rechroming unless its high end wheels.

yeh I'm pretty sure I could buy a lot of stuff for the price of another set of these puppies.. they were chrome dipped by "cal chrome" I believe. I guess maybe it wasn't upmost quality. but then again, this is a DD so they do get dirty. Guess I'll just deal with it.
